RE Update

I know some of you were interested in my RE appointment that I went to on Friday, so I thought I'd update you. @JBDamonM - I think you mentioned going the same route we are when your LO turns 1??

First we showed off pictures of DS, of course, and then received tons of information about a possible FET in the fall. I'll have to get some bloodwork done and a saline sonohysterogram (??), has anyone had one of these? Is it like the HSG??, and also a trial transfer, so not too bad in terms of testing. Once that's done, I'll start Lupron the cycle prior to the FET cycle and we're off!! The RE pretty much said we'll be able to pick the day of our transfer, so I think we'll be looking at October, which means I'm just waiting on my next AF. I'm excited and terrified at the same time!! It's hard to believe we'll be starting over again.

I think we'll be keeping this cycle to ourselves. Our immediate families knew everything about our last IVF cycle, but I think we'd like it to be just us this time around. The only people who know are my best friend, my girlfriend at work (also going back for a FET this fall) and, of course, you ladies! Thanks for the well wishes and I'll keep you updated!!

I think they'll be a little surprised that we're back at it this soon, whereas with DS, they sort of knew something was up so we let them in on it all.

I believe they make you rest afterwards, anyways cause it isn't very pleasant. However, it's just another bump in the road to get the greatest reward. I'm dreading it, myself. We're looking at an October FET, but if not, it will be November, so we'll be right around the same time!

I'm so excited for you ccam! Sorry you have to have a saline sono, doesn't sound fun.

I had a saline sono and didn't find it painful at all and actually thought getting to see the inside of my uterus was kinda cool. So, hopefully your's will be similar to mine.

Thanks for the update!!! Bummer on the saline sono - I wonder if this is standard with an FET? It's a bummer - but at the same time would make me feel a little better knowing that allowing them to get that good look would give me the best chance for success!

We are planning with meeting with RE to discuss options and a plan when LO turns 1 - which is March 31st - but I would like to do my FET in August....b/c selfishly I want to enjoy some of next summer. That may take some convincing with DH though, we'll see! Also, when we did IVF #1 - we kept it to ourselves until the night before ER. Then we let my mom and stepdad in..... From there we only had two friends who knew.. i LOVED that we did this. I was adimate that I wanted to be able to experiencing announcing a pregnancy as a surprise and I also didn't want to have to update people if it didn't work. We will probably attempt the same thing with FET when the time comes.

i love that you can pin point the timing.... I want my RE to do my FET vs. whomever is on that day, so I am hoping for that same flexibility...

I have had both the saline sono and the HSG. I have the joy of another HSG this week. The saline one I didn't feel at all except if felt like I was peeing after. The HSG is the one that hurt a lot. And I had cramping after. Saline one was no issue at all for me. Hope it's the same for you.

I had the sono and HSG. I found the HSG to very VERY painful, even without any blockage. The sono was like very bad period cramping. I didn't take any pain meds before the HSG but before the sono I took 600mg of advil and it helped, I think. Good luck!!

I'm assuming the saline sono would be standard with a FET, but not sure. She pretty much said, I don't have to do the HSG again because in this case, the tubes are a non-issue, but that they do the saline to check for polyps. The nurse also said that people comment how much easier the saline is vs. the HSG, but I guess everyone is different!

Our RE actually said - I do transfers on Thursdays, so if you want me, we can do it then, which I think is pretty cool. Or I can do a Friday so I don't have to miss too much work.

ETA: The RE discussed doing either a natural FET or a medicated FET, obviously the natural they wouldn't have much control over, but the medicated they would. We'd go the medicated route, just because of work, daycare, etc. Knowing the date of transfer ahead of time will be a huge help to us.

We go at the end of the month for a consult with our RE for a possible FET in October. I have no idea what to expect, except for an idea financially what it will be.

I never had an HSG so I have nothing to compare it to but I thought the saline sono was pretty uneventful. I was sooooo scared after the things I had read, and my BP was through the roof before we started. The nurse thought I was nuts when I told her it was all because I was scared. For me it just felt like a pap when they put the catheter in and then I didn't even know they were filling me up with the fluid until I felt it leaking out of me. I leaked and had light cramping the rest of the day. My transfer on the hand was pretty painful but I chalked that up to the progesterone because the pain was from them trying to get the catheter in.

So exiting that things are moving along! I had both the HSG and SIS done on the same day and the SIS was definitely less painful than the HSG. I have two fibroids that the RE needed to confirm the placement of so I had to have the SIS before any treatment. It really wasn't that bad but it feels like your water breaking when they pull everything out (couldn't compare it to that at the time but now that I've gone through childbirth, there are definitely similarities!). Yes!! We do see Dr. D! Love her. Unless the saline sono has something to do with the fact that I had a c-section??, you probably will have to have one, sorry

I'll let you know how it goes though. It's in-office, which is different from the HSG. I had to go to radiology for that, not sure about you.

Who knows!?!?!? I'll be waiting for the update though. I also found the HSG to be miserable so I dread anything even similiar to it! My OB did mine as part of the referral process to the RE - so I did it at Hartford Hospital.... where she is affiliated.

That's where I had mine, too. The UConn Hartford is right next door to Hartford Hospital. Mine was awful and way worse than I expected it to be, and that's without any blockage. But my nurse said that people find the saline to be less painful than the HSG, so hopefully she's right.
