Storing vs. Selling Clothes

I have about 15-20 diaper boxes full of Rylans old clothes. I wanted to keep them incase we have another boy but Im kind of rethinking it. Im considering selling them. Some are still NWT or barely used. What have yall done with their clothes? STMs- did you save them and if so, did you use them?

Re: Storing vs. Selling Clothes

  • I'm saving them. We have lots of storage space in the basement so it's no trouble for us to keep them for a future boy. If we didn't have the space I would sell but otherwise I wouldn't want to stock up on all of that stuff again if I didn't have to.

  • I'm only keeping the really nice pieces I have because unless I have a boy about the same time of year again then I can't use them anyway.

That was my thoughts exactly! SIL kept every piece if clothing from her first girl who was born in July..5 years later she had another one but she was born in December and was way smaller than LO1, so she couldnt use anything!

  • I'm saving right now. I used those space saver vacuum bags & have 1 under the bed storage tote full and another big plastic tote full. I will have to start another plastic tote when she grows out of her current size. But the vacuum bags are a lifesaver!

I will sell if the next one isn't a girl or if the seasons are all wrong. But until then I'm saving.

  • I'm saving. Season/ size wise Tucker's clothes might not work for the next kid but I don't know if we'll have a 3rd and I don't want to start over if they can be used. If we decide after the next one that we're definitely done then ill sell them. My SIL sold alllllll of her baby stuff and now is annoyed that she has to start from scratch. Shoulda thought about that before.

  • Im on the fence really. Im just feeling like a hoarder around here. Im considering selling my wedding dress because I havent even seen the thing in 3 years and if someone could use it, Id rather that instead of it just going to waste.

When I first thought about selling it, I thought about you! I just dont hold any emotional feelings toward the dress since my wedding day sucked so bad. But on the other hand, my daughter doesnt know it was crappy and maybe she would appreciate me doing that for her.

I have no emotional attachment to mine either. but I am doing it for Lilah. I would have liked it from my mom.

  • I've only saved some gender neutral basics and some pieces that I LOVE.

Everything else is being donated, trashed (if stained), or consigned.

I;m just not one to hold on to a bunch of stuff that I _may_ need later.  And when the next kid comes, I'm probably going to want to shop some for her/him anyway and TheBoy's mom gives us tons of stuff, so I think it will be fine.

  • I am doing both.  I went through LOs clothes and picked out the things I really liked and kept that only.  The stuff that I was not crazy about or that I did not find useful I am selling.  In my area we have a great kids sale so I will get something for her stuff.  We don't have enough space to store everything so I figure this is a better solution.  Plus like PP mentioned I may not have another girl which would mean all the stuff I saved wouldn't be very useful.
  • I have saved most of Anna's clothes. The stuff that I didn't like (style-wise or just was a PITA to put on or whatever) I have consigned. Like @adorebella said, we have the space to store it so I might as well keep the things I liked.

This is exactly what I am doing as well! I had them all in totes before I had the "ah ha" moment and bought the vacuum bags!

  • Saved them. I also did the vacuum bags to help save space.

We're already pregnant again, so once we have the anatomy scan, I'll have a better idea of what we'll do with them. My cousin is 3m ahead of me with her pregnancy, and she's having a boy after having a girl. If we learn we're havin a girl, we'll just trade clothes. If it's a boy, despite the season difference, we should be able to use a decent number of the items.

  • I was originally set on saving everything, but we're up to 4 big storage boxes full and aren't planning on trying for another 14 months or so, so chances of them multiplying are good.  We have room in the attic, but really don't care to save them that long.  We decided to sell them in a yard sale we're having this weekend and whatever doesn't sell will go to a consignment sale in a few months.  All of the money goes to B's savings.  Makes more sense to me to get money that will get us returns than to just let them sit there.

My plan is whatever I make off of them, I will put it towards new clothes. MIL gave me a $100 giftcard for his birthday for new clothes but Im saving that for next spring/summer since we are outside a lot more during those times. If that makes sense?! Lol!

  • I've decided to keep the ones I really like and then sell the ones that I don't feel one way or the other for. I started going through the boxes this weekend and it turned into a royal mess because I had my little helper.

I kept my favourites, lent out things I was "meh" about with my initials in the tag, and gave away things that he never wore and that I probably wouldn't use on another baby. A few really special things (newborn jammies, an adorable toque he wore all winter, going home outfit etc.) I'm putting in his "baby box" and it won't even be used by baby #2.

If I was having storage issues I'd probably lend or sell everything I didn't absolutely love :)

  • I'm saving my favorites and the basic necessities, selling the rest. I know that even if I have another boy, I will want to buy new stuff.

  • I saved everything! I used it all too! I think it's adorable dressing LO in my other kids clothing and taking pics to compare how much they look alike. I also got alot of hand me downs from other people, so we barely had to buy clothing for LO at all.

LO is baby #3 for us so now I only saved the real nice stuff and gave the rest to charity or family/friends. Good luck!
