Sunday CP: How ready are you?

The time for LO's arrival is almost here! How ready are you? And I'm talking every aspect - physically, mentally, financially. Is baby's room ready? Is your car seat installed? Are LO's things washed and folded and lovingly tucked away in the dresser/closet? Are you ready to say bye-bye to sleep? To nice, clean clothes? To sanity? Are you ready to snuggle with this little bean? And feed/change/clothe/bathe this LO? Are you ready to devote most (if not all) of your time to this little thing?? Are you ready to watch your life change in ways you didn't think possible, both amazing ways and not-so-fun ways?

Re: Sunday CP: How ready are you?

  • I picked "not quite". Everything is in place even though we still have seven weeks to go. But I start school in two weeks and I don't want to think about baby-preparation. So in terms of "stuff" we are ready. But I know from DD that life is easier with baby on the inside! So I'm enjoying my last few weeks of having only one kiddo. Although its uncomfortable sometimes and I have trouble sleeping and my clothes don't fit, its hands-down easier to care for LO when they are in the womb. Granted its nowhere near as fun as when LO is finally here!

  • Not quite. Physically and emotionally, I am sooo ready. As far as the nursery, car seats, little stuff I still have things to do.

  • Emotionally, yes. And honestly, if baby came today, we'd be ok with the stuff we have. His/her room is a mess, but all the tiny clothes are washed, we have someplace the baby could sleep, we have a car seat. We're just not 100% ready on the "stuff" front.

This exactly. I went back to school Wednesday and Thursday of this week and will most likely be there Monday-Thursday (the office is closed on Fridays during the summer to save money) this week as well even though I don't have to be back till the following week because I had to move rooms and have to set everything up from scratch. I have almost everything put away (we were given another bag of clothes on Friday) for LO and I am so excited to finally meet her and see her but at the same time the life changes are a little scary. This is our first and I will be the first to admit over the summer I got so disgustingly lazy I just don't know how I am going to adjust to going back to school and then having a LO and working at school too.
  • I picked not quite. We have all of the essentials and more , his nursery isn't done yet though , it just needs pictures hung and for our glider to be delivered but it is driving me crazy not having it 100%. Mainly because I know if we don't do it now, it may take a long time after he is born for us to get back to it.

  • We plan to put LO in the pack n play in our room for the first little bit, but I haven't figured out how that's going to work yet. If I put it right by the bed like a cosleeper, then I can't really get out of the bed. We still need a dresser so I can finish putting up her clothes. I want to put one of those changing table pads on top of it, too.

We don't have a crib, but that's something we're waiting on. We still need to get the stroller, too.

  • Physically we have just about everything in order. I'm not terribly uncomfortable at this point **knock on wood** so I'm in no rush to push her out just yet. Kids come back to school in one week and I still don't know who my sub will be yet. That stresses me out tons sometimes. For the most part I think I'm ready, but I have my moments of doubt.

  • Not quite - all the big stuff is purchased and set up, but we need to install the carseat, make a few small purchases and I would like to do just a little bit more decorating. Oh and add re-deep cleaning the house bc i went crazy in my second tri and now again am every spec of dirt!
  • 99% ready. We had to go into super mode this weekend with her definitely coming early now. The room was already ready but a few small things had to be out into place, so the hubby got on it. The only thing we might need is preemie clothes but we have plenty of newborn stuff so hopefully she will be big enough for that stuff.

We don't wanna buy anything until we know for sure. We still need a monitor but planned on getting it after she came anyways.

  • I said not quite, we still need to set up crib and nursery but it's because we are currently trying to sell our home. We were going to do it this weekend but now might have a showing this week and if through some miracle the person wants to buy our house it's easier to move the crib in its box. I need to wash clothes, buy post-partum supplies and pack my hospital bag.

  • Not quite... I feel like I have a million things left to do but most of the important stuff is taken care of. I would love to prepare some meals to freeze for the weeks after LO arrives.

  • I voted "not quite," but I don't really need a few more weeks to get everything done.  Maybe just one ;)

  • Not ready.  I mean, I'm SOOOO ready to have my body back, but I have so much stuff I need to get done first  (mostly work related).

Physically, yes. I am sort of terrified at the thought of how much more uncomfortable I will be over the next 8 weeks. Emotionally, no. Adding another kiddo to the family is stressing me out a lot and knowing that life will never be the same is scary. Stuff wise, we will be as soon as we get the car seat.
I hear ya. After having one, you know how drastic the changes are! That's why I'm enjoying every day that LO is still inside. Taking advantage of being able to do things with just DD - which is much more logistically doable. I've done some planning in my mind about how I will do things with a newborn - showering, pooping, sleeping, feeding DD while LO needs fed/changed/etc, going out on my own (might not do that for a loooong time). But many people say that going from 0-1 kid is harder than 1-2. We'll see...

  • I picked No, plain and simple. Truthfully if LO showed up tomorrow we would be fine. We have everything that we absolutely need except a carseat, which a friend or DH could pick up if needed. We are really hoping to sell our house and move before the baby arrives so we haven't actually prepared anything in the house for him. DD will get a new bedroom set and LO will get her crib and changing table but we want to wait until we are in a new house before we buy that. I'm a little nervous about the changes to our family as we go from a family of 3 to 4 and try to move at the same time but I know it will all be fine, just take some time to adjust to a new normal.
  • We're moving in to our house 3 days before she's born. Soooo nothing is done. Her clothes are washed

  • We have everything she needs ready but I have some last minute touches I'd like to add to the nursery to call it complete. Hubby also has several house things to do before she gets here so he won't have to worry about it once she's here and life becomes busier. I'm 34 wks and 2 days so I really want her to stay put until at least week 39! However, I'm so anxious and excited to meet my little girl!!!
  • FTM so I will never be fully ready in any area and financially I'd like more money but everyone does! I can't wait to meet him

  • I said no, plain and simple. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that we haven't started birth class yet (next Monday) or had my shower (it's a surprise so I have no idea) and we're still trying to finish building upstairs. I have all the basic needs if he showed up tomorrow though.. we have a crib which could go in our bedroom if necessary, a travel system, and clothes and a swing from my SIL's son. I know I could handle it if we had to, but I definitely think I'll feel more prepared once we get through birth class and I have a few more things.

  • I voted 'SS" because physically I'm very ready. I have everything we need for her and it's all set up. I'm also soooo ready to not be pregnant anymore.

However I'm not quite ready, and somewhat terrified of going from 1 to 2 kids.

  • I haven't done anything and DS1 was born at 36 weeks (just 2 1/2 weeks from where I am now), I am starting to panic, but we where reno-ing our basement and it only got finished Friday, so we can finally start getting things ready.

Just to add as we are having a second boy, we have everything, we just need to sort it out, I need to move DS1s clothes, wash DS2s clothes, find and sort out the bassinette, get the baby bath etc back off of a friend of mine who borrowed it for her baby, pack my hospital bag, put in the car seat, make some dinners to freeze, the list goes on, I should really stop bumping and get on with it ;)

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • SS here. While everything is in place, I dont want to meet these little men for awhile. I am still on hospital bed rest and even though I am only having little contractions, they have been making an impact onmy cervix. I am not sitting at 4cm and 65-70% effaced. Unless things magically stop all together, they could be here this week.

  • I picked not quite, but it's really only the car seat that has yet to be installed. I don't know why I'm putting it off its the last thing that needs to be done. I have 1 month from today so I keep thinking there plenty of time probably b/c DS came 10 days late.
  • I voted not quite. If she came right now, we'd manage, but there are things I want to get done first. We have some of her laundry washed so she would have things to wear, but I still have another two loads to do, one of which is all her linens (towels, sheets, etc). We live in the city and don't own a car so we don't have to install the car seat ahead of time, but we have it cleaned, the straps adjusted, and otherwise ready to go. Still need to pack hospital bags and set up the stand for the Moses basket and I need to sterilize all the toys, bottles, etc. Our birthing class is next week so we have that still. I'd like to be able to make some freezer meals as well. I'm not due until the end of September so I technically have close to two months to go yet, so that should be plenty of time. Emotionally, I'm ready for her. I want to meet her so badly! I can't wait to have her on the outside. Financially I think we're as good as we're going to be. For the bills my income typically covers, we have 6 months worth saved up, plus our savings that we're trying to avoid using. Physically I don't know if I'm ready. I'm starting to get uncomfortable and that makes me nervous about whether or not I can handle labor since I want to go med free. I worry that if it's getting hard now, labor is only going to be worse! I feel like I need to be doing some exercises or something to build strength.
    One DD born 9/23/13.
    We're one and done!
  • We could survive with things as they are if DD2 arrived now, but I am looking forward to the next 6+ weeks to get things in better order and prepare DD1.  She starts preschool in 2.5 weeks and I am really looking forward to getting settled into that routine.  I am also looking forward to the 6 hours a week I will have child free to get stuff done around the house.  I want to cook some freezer meals.  I want to declutter more.  I hope DH and I will have time to go on a few more dates.

  • Not quite lol. I need just two more weeks atleast to get everything together & plus my job to work. But everyone keeps saying oh u look like u cld pop any day now. And that kinda makes me nervous cause I'm really hoping anytime after the next two weeks. We have to put everything together and get a few more things.
  • We're ready.  DD is our 2nd child.  We have all the gear up, washed, and DS is getting used to it all.  The Co-Sleeper is up in our room.  Her newborn and a few 0-3mo outfits are washed.  Carseat base is in the car.

I've been dealing with PTL since about 31 weeks, so that kind of kicked us in the butt to start getting ready.  I had DS1 naturally with no issue at 36 weeks (which I will be tomorrow) and I come off all PTL medication tomorrow.  Could be anytime...or 4 weeks from now. ha. Either way, we're ready.

  • I said SS.  I have everything ready, but am not at the "done" point that I have reached in other pregnancies (which occurred days before giving birth). I'm so tired though, so I'm over that, but being 35 weeks, so I know baby has some growing to do and I'll feel it around 38-39w, probably. But I'm not necessarily wanting a few weeks to enjoy life as it is though....I'm too tired haha!
  • I voted not quite.  We have gotten alot done in the nursery the past few weeks.  I still have alot of things to wash though and put the decals on the wall.  I am excited for the baby to come but he still needs to stay in awhile longer since I am not due until September 25.  Some things I am afraid to open since I still have awhile.  Also I go back to work in a couple of weeks and I have no idea who my sub will be plus I have to get together plans for the beginning of my maternity leave.  Also we are still figuring out daycare for when I get off maternity leave.

    <Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker>
  • Some clothes are washed and put away, but DS is still sleeping in the crib in the nursery, car seat is not in, and we still haven't picked a name or even narrowed it down to a couple choices.  Procrastinate much?   :)

  • I said no plain and simple. If the baby came tomorrow I would basically tell my parents and in laws what to go out and buy (and wash, etc) and have them bring our car to have the carseat base installed and then tell my friend she had to drop off the bassinet we are borrowing. Now that we're in our house we plan on going the next two weekends to buy the essentials (and pick up things we're borrowing) but none of it (and I really do mean none of it) is ready right now.
    Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • I'm "not quite" ready.  Our first baby shower is next weekend, and our final shower is the weekend of the 17th.  After that, I'll need one more weekend to organize, assemble, and pick up any necessities that we still need.  I'm a FTM, so we started with nothing and outside of nursery furniture, we are waiting to make any purchases until the showers are over so we can assess and prioritize what we really need.  In three weeks, I'll still have a month to my due date, but I think I'll be "ready."
