breast crawl?

Have you heard of letting the baby breast crawl after birth where they move towards feeding on their own?  Have you experienced that?  What do you think of allowing that instead of bringing your baby directly to nurse?

    I have not experienced it, but I've seen an amazing video of it happening.

    I had to look this up because I had never heard of it before. I think it's a sweet concept, but it seems unnecessary and like it could take up a lot of time. If the hospital is busy that night, I am not sure they would like to wait through it instead of moving mama and baby into the recovery room. The first few hours after giving birth was kind of a whirlwind for us. Despite being fully developed, my girl couldn't latch on and we spent a lot of time working on it. Breastfeeding was a huge struggle for us. In a perfect world, I see this working out, but I also know that there are a lot of variables that could make it difficult.

    I've seen it happen! We do skin to skin contact after delivery at my hospital and I had a patient that was adamant about not breastfeeding. Her baby did the crawl and went to town by himself. It was hilarious! I don't know if she ever let him breastfeed again, but he did a great job that one time! Even if your baby is just too sleepy after delivery, you need to insist on skin to skin time for your first hour after delivery. It is SO very special for my patients. Babies love it, their temps regulate better, and I swear I could hit my moms with a baseball bat and they wouldn't even care bc they're so engrossed in their baby. I don't know of anything more rewarding do do after labor than snuggles with your newborn. (Except maybe your first meal and Mountain Dew post-delivery!) ;)
