Intro and IUI?

Hi everyone,
I'm not new to the bump, however I'm new to this board.  DH and I had our daughter in July '11, after two miscarriages and a resected septum. I went back on the pill for a year after having her (came off in Aug '12) and nothing happened after 6 months of trying so my OB/GYN suggested we head back to the RE who did my septum resection. The same month we saw her (Mar '13) we found out we were expecting - great, right?! Well that ended quickly and things went sour very quickly. It was considered ectopic but they couldn't ever actually located the pregnancy and I had 2 rounds of Methotrexate. Fast forward to today - we are scheduled to start IUI next month - a part of me is, of course, saddened but also nervous at the same time. I'm looking for words of encouragement -  I know that many women have had success with IUI but I also see a lot of stories where there are multiple failed cycles.... ay thoughts or personal experiences are welcome.
Thanks for reading!

Re: Intro and IUI?

  • I too am worried about multiple failed cycles.  We are on our 2nd IUI cycle, waiting to test early next week.  I know another person had a BFP on their 2nd cycle.  So hope that helps you feel a little better.  Hope you are pregnant in only a few cycles, or even better from the 1st.   :)

  • I'm wondering about an IUI, too.  I'm on my 2nd cycle with Clomid.  My RE recommended an IUI, but my acupuncturist said that if DH is not having any issues with erections or ejactulation & our timing is good, there's no sense paying for the IUI.  I guess I'm not sure what difference it will make whether we do an IUI or just do it ourselves.  Our timing is always good, and if we have sex the day after a +OPK, how is that different from an IUI?

  • Hi ladies! I had the same question when first faced with the decision to seek help. My RE explained it to me like this: statistically speaking, medicated cycles alone with TI do not increase your chances of conceiving. The IUI itself -- where sperm is washed and all dead/slow movers are removed -- is what gives the boost in chances. When a person has a reduced chance (couples with no pregnancies in a year -- 4% chance of conceiving), and IUI increases your chances of conceiving to 8-20%. DH doesn't have any issues. In fact, he was given rave reviews after his SA. But my RE said that getting the sperm up higher in the uterus significantly increases chances of having sperm meet egg.
Here's the weird part - for my first IUI, I had 2 mature follicles at the time of the IUI, DH had 50 million sperm, and my lining was labeled "perfect."  BFN.
So I guess at the end of the day -- IUI or TI -- it still comes down to a higher power, fate, what have you.
Just wanted to say good luck to both of you. I'm gearing up for my 2nd IUI next week. I'm hopeful that we'll have better luck this time.
(I hope the info above is useful -- I had to go back into my notes, so it may be choppy :)  )
