Friends picking on my 'girl name'

So if we have a girl, she is going to be Madeline (pronounced Mada-lynn) Grace. One of my coworkers told me that she doesn't like it b/c her nick name would be Maddie. One of the other pregnant women I work with is going to name her little boy 'Sailor' and one of the men I work with named their baby Swayzee. And Madeline is weird? Am I wrong for being kind of irritated with this?

Re: Friends picking on my 'girl name'

  • Ignore them! It's a lovely, legit name that will be sweet as a child and age well into adulthood. And yeah, I am not a fan of your coworkers' "naming style" lol. Just another reason to shrug them off!

  • Eh, someone's always going to have a negative opinion. All the more reason not to share unless absolutely necessary.
  • Eh, don't let it get to you. Her opinion really doesn't count. It's a pretty name and you like it so that's all that matters.

  • I think if I worked with coworkers who have children named Swayze and Sailor, I wouldn't be able to value their opinion! Madeline is a great name.

  • To piggyback on what PPs said, I would actually take it as a compliment that they don't like your name choices. I think you should worry if they do. ;)

  • You should ignore them, but personally I'd spell it Madeleine or Madelyn if you want it pronounced mada-lynn. Madeline has a "line" sound, like lion.

but *mada-lynn* Grace is very nice.
    FORMERLY NADCHAEL.
