What to pay a mother's helper/young sitter

Our 12 yr old neighbor is going to come over 1 afternoon a week to play with the kids while I get some things done (sometimes at home, sometimes I'll go out). What would you pay her? I was going to pay her what I give our regular adult sitter but a friend said that would be to much?

  • Ours comes for three hours and I am typically home.   I pay her $20.  If I leave the house I add $5 for each hour I am gone.

  • We do $5 an hour for a mother's helper.  We pay a regular sitter between $10 and $12 an hour.

  • Thanks everyone. I asked her mom who said "whatever you're comfortable with." So we ended up doing $8/hr. And yes, her mom is always home next door if she is here.

    I think 8 is a good number.
