With my first we waited until she was 2 because my brother has a severe nut allergy. But those guidelines have changed. Turns out they think its worse to wait. I'm waiting the year for pb and eggs. I know there's a lot of people already doing both.
Rhett had peanut butter pretty early because he stole a pb&j sandwich from Mathieu. With Mathieu we were told to wait a year. 2yrs seems pretty extreme.

We've given DS PBJ with no reaction. Thank goodness. We waited the year an I agree that 2 years seems extreme unless of course there is an allergy in the family.
Just gave T some the other day on an english muffin and he loved it! He already had allergy testing done for other reasons, with no reaction to nuts, so I was much more comfortable in giving it early.
2 years seems pretty extreme. They don't reccommend waiting anymore, except for family history of the allergy.
I have a severe peanut allergy, so it's the only food ds hasn't had yet. That being said, I think I may go ahead of give it a whorl, and have benedryl on hand. I'm tired of living in fear!

I work at a children's hospital. (Not in patient care,I'm a computer programmer.) But I know our Chief of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology says no reason to wait. AAP says the same. In fact, newer studies say delaying foods may INCREASE allergic reactions.
The only thing we're avoiding is honey until after 1 year.
Because I have severe allergies, and my nephew was just diagnosed with severe peanut allergies, we aren't doing peanut butter until two. I am not allergic to any nuts, but have several life threatening allergies.
The latest AAP thinking is that delayed introduction may increase the risk of allergies. Lila has had PB and loves it. I was concerned since my cousin's son has multiple life threatening allergies but so far she has been allergy free.

We haven't tried PB either. My bro also is allergic to nuts and my first cousin was in ICU for 2 weeks from a peanut reaction. It came on as an adult. I'm freaked out about nuts, but I will discuss with his pedi at his 1 year appt on how to best introduce it.
our pediatrician also said no need to wait on anything (except honey). she said to just have some benadryl on hand. DS has had peanut butter and other commonly allergic foods with no issues. as others mentioned, the latest research says that waiting longer may actually be increasing the rates of food allergies.
i had also heard that you can rub some PB or whatever on their arm to see if there's a contact reaction before you let them eat it.
Our pedi said to go ahead and give it at c's one year visit. We have a family hx of nut allergies too, and she just recommended having Benadryl on hand if we're uneasy about it.

Micah had peanut butter around 8 months. Our pedi says everything is okay except no honey before 1.
