Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

"oh my gosh he's growing up" moment...

Probably six months ago or so I posted a question like this and it was fun to read the responses, so now that our LO's are older I'm posting something similar again just for fun....

This week I feel like there have been so many things that have made me feel like "oh my gosh he's growing up"!  It's totally hit me he's a toddler for sure and NOT a baby. Makes me a little sad but mostly I'm excited and fascinated to watch him develop.  My moments this week: first, he just looks different...I catch myself just studying his face and thinking how old he looks. I also discovered if I ask him "do you want to take a bath?" he'll walk to the bathrooom and point at the tub.  He also started responding to "where's your belly button?" farily consistently. Lastly he started saying "hi" pretty well.

What have been your "oh my gosh he/she's growing up!" moments lately? And does it make you happy or sad??

  • I took DS to get a haircut today and he sat completely still the entire time. I didn't have to bribe him with puffs or my phone like usual. Lets see if a PIP works

  • My son tells me where all his body parts are, dances for me, and definitely wants less help with things... It's bittersweet to let him figure it all out on his own..
  • DD2  is in the language explosion stage (she's almost 20 months). Everyday it seems like she has a new word of phrase. The other night she said "I did it" repeatedly, and last night she identified her plate as green.

  • He no longer just points to the pantry or refrigerator, but make specific requests for what he wants now.

This is totally DS now. He really seems to understand what I'm asking/saying and responds with the correct action - i.e., "where's your pacifier?" and he says "oh!" runs off and comes back with his pacifier!  And, he's alway so proud that he accomplished what I asked.  I'm loving this stage, watching him learn and understand more and more everyday.  It makes me excited for what's to come!

  • DS knows many signs so every time he communicates his needs its amazing. But, the last two nights he hasn't wanted to rock with me in the chair. He just goes to the crib and tries to get in.

That picture is too much! I am taking LO to get his first haircut for his birthday party this weekend and I swear your precious picture got me choked up! he is a doll!
  • My guy is the king of independence these days.  So everything is "I hold" or "I do it."  He opens the fridge to get his milk out by himself.  He cleans up his toys when asked and yesterday he called the dog over to clean up food he had dropped - "Ringo 'ean up!"

  • My son has started to put his own dishes in the sink and throw trash away(IN the trashcan lol)...It makes me teary thinking about how big he's gotten but I realize the ultimate goal is to someday have him grow up and do things on his own, so I'm happy he's learning so quickly and so well!
