Clomid Question

For those that took clomid multiple cycles, did it work better the second cycle?  What I mean is did you respond better to it?  I took clomid last cycle and didn't really respond to it.  I am wondering if I should push to try it again at a higher dosage, or go ahead and change to Femara?  A close friend of mine conceived twice on clomid and she said the second time she took it she didn't really respond the first cycle, but had a great response the second cycle on it.

Any input from your experiences is appreciated.

DD conceived after 3 years of ttc.
MFI - DH had varicocele repair and took Clomid to get DD b. 02/2010

TTC #2 since 6/2010
10/2012 DH diagnosed with Epilepsy
A few failed IUIs summer 2012 and 2013. 
DH taking clomid and waiting to see if he needs another vericocele repair. 
Hoping for a 2015 baby or babies. 
Wishing, hoping, waiting.

    I took clomid for...5 cycles (3 were back to back) the other 2 were not. The first 3 I did 25, then 50, then 100 mg and ovulated every time.

    My OB prescribed it and didnt monitor me. He just upped the dose each failed month. Later we discovered it was MFI so in hindsight I don't know that I needed the clomid.

    The other two times were with IUIs + Ovidrel, each IUI I had 2 eggs.

    You would think 3 million sperm and 2 eggs would be great odds. Not so much.

    I'm not familiar with Femara. Did you not ovulate on the clomid? What dose did you take?

    I have much the same prior experience. Ob/gyn prescribes clomid, upping the dose each unsuccessful cycle. No monitoring and later found we had MFI. I am trying IUI with clomid and the only monitoring I had last cycle was a 7 dpo progesterone test. It was 2.9 which is well below what they would like it to be at. I was on Femara last summer and never made it to IUI while taking it, o'd too soon each cycle. So I am a bit leery of trying it again.
