We are still trying a few infertility treatments, but are close to the end of that road. We want to do domestic adoption, after making a few contacts we've realized that most agencies have gone to a system where the birth mother chooses the adoptive parents from a profile book. I'm just worried we will pay all the money and just sit forever not getting picked. My husband is 62, and I am 30. I just don't think we are what a birth mother would imagine as the "perfect" parents. With so many profiles that do fit that image, I feel like we could wait forever.
Does anyone have a similar story or advice on a direction we should look into?
Re: I don't think we will get chosen
Have you looked into private adoption, either through an attorney or networking online?
Another option is to attend an information session at an agency and ask about your ages and how it could impact the process. Or just call them and ask about it. They may have experience with older parents, or a significant age gap, and could give you advice.
Just my 2c.
