Toast

I gave B toast today and gave it to him in a finger slice. He shoved the whole thing in his mouth multiple times. So I ended up breaking it into finger food sized pieces. Anyone else not able to give LO fingers of toast? It's something I've wanted to try for a few weeks now...

Re: Toast

  • DS will eat bread any way, shape. Or form. He loves toast fingers the most though. He doesn't like it as much all mushy. He just holds half of it in his fist and chews on the other part though...

  • We do grilled cheese that way. D just shoves it in, chews it until its soggy and it gets every where. He doesn't gag so I pretty much let him have at it. But I hover a little bit more when he eats it since I know he shovels it in.

  • N has days where he shoves the entire thing in. Then days where he sucks/bites off a piece.

I try him with a 'finger' sized piece first and if he shoves it all I adjust the size.

Same thing goes for other foods.

^^wss! If he ever puts too much in his mouth, it invariably comes back out. We're doing BLW, but toast fingers was one of the first foods we tried. It was (and still is) a hit! ETA: subject/verb agreement for toast fingers is more confusing than it should be.

  • We've done bread (not toasted), but he'll just shove as much as I put in front of him in his mouth at one time. Sometimes he'll chew it all up and swallow, and sometimes he'll play with it in his mouth for a while and then spit the whole wad out. So usually I just give him a few small pieces at a time.
  • After seeing this post the other day I tried toast last night and she loved it! Definitely going to be a usual thing around here!

  • If I give him big pieces he just pushes it all in mushes it up intoa  big wad and then spits it all out.  So we just do like square pieces that he can mush up and swallow.

  • Noah does this with just about everything. It's like he's on a mission to see how much he can cram in at once! He only gets 2 Cheerios or puffs at a time because of this. He is getting better. I let him gag a couple of times and he seems to be figuring out how much he can handle. Usually he just spits it out if he gets too much in there. He really likes waffle fingers and does good with those.
