Road Trip!!!

Ok gals, the whole family (even the dog) is packing up and driving to Montana on the 8th for a wedding. Its an 8+ hour trip from where we are and I could use some advice for LO. SS11 will be going with my parents and leaving a day early to make the trip in two days but DH, LO, Doggy & I can't leave until after work Thursday and then have to drive straight through. Current plan is to do our night-time routine as always - walk with my mommy-friends & LO when I get home from work, LO dinner/bath and then instead of into bed, into the car so he sleeps the whole way (hopefully).
Any suggestions in case Plan A goes up in a big ball of flames?

Also hoping DH and I can use the forced time together to help us through our current rough patch. Either that or we just won't speak the whole time. Or one of us will end up walking in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night (Hint: not me b/c its my damn truck & dog & kid!)

Re: Road Trip!!!

  • I'd just make sure one of you can jump in the back seat if he wakes to entertain or soothe him. Will the dog travel well enough to leave him be? I'd say just make sure you have bottles, toys, blankie or lovey, favorite music cd on hand. Good luck and I really hope you guys have a good trip together.

  • We went to Seattle and back a few weeks ago, which is about 12 hours each way. We did what you are planning with doing the night routine and just leaving at bedtime. DD did a great job of sleeping all the way through, except for when we had to stop for gas. We left at like 10pm (so she had a very late bedtime) and then woke up early. She of course wanted to get out of her seat. But as long as you have toys and someone to occupy her you should be good.
We also brought all the things she like at home to soothe her, and then let her spend all day OUT of the carseat.
