XP: 33w4d and sitting in L&D

On Sunday I started having period like cramps, a low backache but it was nothing I couldnt handle. By midnight I just wasnt feeling...right. I pushed it off some more and then decided it would be best to just call L&D and see if they want me to come in. My OB, who is 1.5 hours from me, said that if anything were to happen before 34 weeks to just go to the nearest hospital since they would have to transfer me anyways. I went in to find out I was having ocntractions 3-4 minutes apart, some would leave me with a breathless feeling, some I would feel, and some I wouldnt. I was given a shot or Terbutiline and it slowed them some but they kicked back up. I ended up being airlifted to a bigger hospital and have been here since Monday morning. They were able to get two betamethazone shots on board so that is a plus if anything were to happen.

They were giving me Procardia every six hours and on Tuesday morning I was checked. I was closed and thick then. I met with a NICU NP and went over all of my questions, the possiblities of what could happen, etc. I was at ease with that meeting. At that point I was still feeling some contractions and it basically has been like what was going on when I went into L&D, feel some, shortness of breath with some, and no pain with the others.

When the MFMs did their rounds this morning I was checked again and am sitting at 2cm dilated, and 40% effaced. I know that could mean something but it could also mean nothing as well. They decided that it would be best to stop the Procardia since it wasnt doing much to being with. I am wondering if anyone has been in this situation before? Outcome?

I wasn't in your exact situation, but I did deliver my twins at 33w4d and they were born with no breathing problems at all. They were on room air from minute 1. They spent 23 days in the NICU just as feeders and growers. Good luck to you!!

I wasn't in your exact situation, but I had two episodes of PTL resolved by mag at 29 weeks and terbutaline at 33 weeks. I was told I wasn't a candidate for procardia or mag after 30 weeks. At 34w 1d I was contracting every 1-2 min and dilated. I received one dose of terbutaline that shot up my heart rate too high. They delivered my boys by CS that night and we spent 10 days in the NICU. They were 5 lbs 9 oz and 4 lbs 10 oz. Hope that helps?!

My situation was not the same, but I was induced at 34w2d for Growth issues with baby a and they were both 100% fine - they spent 12 days in the NICU learning to feed-but totally healthy!

Thanks ladies for sharing your experiences. It is getting tough just sitting here wondering. I am pretty sure they will be doing daily checks since they stopped the Procardia and take it from there.

My water broke at 34w. I had previously rec'd steroid shots at 32w. My boys were 5lbs and 5lbs 8oz, needed no help breathing and were in the NICU 13 days as feeders/growers.

At 33&2 it was discovered the BH I'd been having were actually early labor and I was 4cm 80% effaced. I spent 3 days in antepartum and 1 day at home on bedrest before Baby A's water broke. His water broke at 9:30 and they were both born at 12:40. The terb did nothing for me and neither did the mag. They were born at 33&6 both just over 5 lbs. they spent 14 days in the nicu and at 4 months were over 15lbs each. If they come early they will be alright. Just try to take each day one at a time. @RachelGoldstein This is my exact situation right now. I was checked yesterday and was 3cm and 60% effaced and am 33w6d now. They said they wont start labor if I reach 4cm but wont stop it either. I am nervous if I have to leave on Monday as we are 1.5 hours away from this hospital and it has a NICU where my local and the one my OB (I doctor 1.5 hours the opposite direction) is at. I have been cramping (low lying, period like cramps) and have had an intense low back ache since yesterday.

I delivered at 33w4d after being admitted at 31w1d for baby a's water breaking. The terb did nothing for me either, but the mag helped until my c section. They were born at 5.9 and 4.10 and were in the NICU for 2 weeks for feeding and growing. Good luck!! T&P!!

I had my girls at 34w4d. They spent 4 weeks in the SCN as feeders and growers. No breathing problems, room air from the beginning. Hope all is still well and babies are still baking.
