TTC After a Loss

Hsg

Hey ladies! Hope you all are doing well! I haven't been on the board for awhile now. Hope you don't mind me popping in to ask about anyone's experience with HSG. I know there's probably some new ladies here that will not recognize me. For those that that don't know me there is a summary in my siggy. For mobile: In 2012 we lost our angel at 21 weeks due to bladder obstruction which lead to d&e. A year later we mc and had a d&c.
Anyways, I am wanting if you wonderful ladies could share with me your experience with HSG. Also for those who had scar tissue what they did to fix it. I am nervous about having this done. I know it's relatively simple. However don't know what to really expect and there's a chance my DH may not be able to go due to traveling for work. This making me feel even more nervous that he cant go. I am really hoping there's no scar tissue but that is what they are having me come in to check and make sure there isn't any.
Thank you ladies! You all have been so wonderful to me in the past! I hope to see you all be blessed with beautiful rainbows soon!

Re: Hsg

  • hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I have no advice to share. They found scar tissue after your D&C??? ((HUGS)) I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.

I think there might be someone on pgal that had some scar tissue removed.

  • I will say my HSG hurt but only for two minutes...one minute when they were getting the cath past my "stubborn" cervix and another for a minute when they pushed the dye in.  Since the whole thing only take five minutes I figured it was OK to suffer a tiny bit.  I did not scream in pain but there was some definite grunting.  Many can get through it without pain, some docs rx valium while mine just said to take two aleve beforehand.  I didn't have any cramping afterward and went to work on my feet later that day.

They didn't find any scar tissue with my d&c that I know of. However my doctor didn't preform the d&e and is wondering if that may or may of not of caused me to mc this last time. I am not sure how scar tissue would affect that but rather be safe than sorry.

  • No advice here either. This is the only basic test I think I haven't had, but I've seen a couple of them done. Just some ((( hugs ))) and let us know how it goes. As for scar tissue removal I'm betting it would be via operative hysteroscopy? :-/

  • I hardly ever post on here, but I thought I would share. My HSG was very much like everyone's else, uncomfortable but not horrible. I went to work right after. The HSG did not show anything for me, because my uterus is so tilted. After my third miscarriage they ended up doing a saline sonogram. That is were the discovered that I had scar tissue. I guess the scar tissue stops the fetus from getting the proper nutrients. I ended up having to have a surgery to remove the scar tissue which was two weeks ago. I am now on estrogen and progesterone in order to thicken my lining so no new scar tissue develops. The surgery was not too bad. I wish you luck and hope you do not have any scar tissue.

Dear God, Since I couldn't hold my little one in my lap and tell him about you, could you hold him in your lap and tell him about me?

  • Hi @whiteroses05!  Much like the others, my HSG was not bad.  I did take two advil about an hour before and didn't feel any pain at all during the procedure.  For me, it was like my most uncomfortable pelvic exam.  The speculum bothered me more than the catheter and procedure itself.  Afterwards, I did have some minor cramping so I continued to take advil but just for that day.

Good luck with yours and let us know how it goes!   I hope it goes smoothly and you find that everything perfectly fine in there.  ((hugs))

  • I had myself so worked up about it, but after it was over I was like "that's it?". I had some pain when they inserted the catheter, but that was it and the whole procedure was over before I knew it. Also, my dh wasn't allowed in the radiology room with me (and he didn't even go with me because we knew that ahead of time), so if your dh can't make it please try not to worry too much. Also, I second the pp who mentioned bringing your own pad. Good luck and I hope that they don't find any scar tissue!

  • I knew nothing about them before mine, so I did not know what to expect. I thought it was very painful. The Dr had to push through and then scrape off scar tissue. I recommend advil before hand. Despite the pain it is worth it to get answers or peace of mind. GL!
