  I'd just arm myself with the stats and remind them that child birth doesn't have to be a medical procedure. I think it's fantastic that you're having a home birth. I'm all for having the birth that you feel is best for you and your family, be it at a hospital or at home. F you feel more comfortable at home, that's only going to make your Borg experience that much better. People don't know what they're talking about and you'll always have those who think its ludicrous to have a baby at home. Ignore those people and trust your decision. Good luck!!

  I don't know what a Borg experience is. I meant to say birth experience. :-)

  Thanks ladies! Usually I am good at ignoring those people. This time it came from my grandmother, so it bothered me a little more. I will keep trying to avoid the conversation though.

  We're having a home birth this time, for baby #4. After 3 pregnancies and 3 deliveries (in a hospital attached birth center, a hospital, and a free standing birth center, respectively) I've learned enough to just keep some things to myself. I won't lie about it, but I won't advertise it either. Especially with my in-laws, who reacted terribly to the birth center birth, I'm just hoping they never find out. But I'm very confident in my decision and, if anyone wants to fight with me about it (as opposed to having a genuine conversation) I'll just ask that they respect me enough to trust that I'm making an educated choice that's right for me and my family.
