Job Offer

I am in the process of getting a job offer from the local University. They have childcare on site, and its EXSPENSIVE. Has anyone asked for discounted daycare as part of their benefit package? Wondering if its an option or will I just look ignorant.TIA

Re: Job Offer

  • I work for a university that has a daycare. It is a joke that it is for the benefit of the employees. There is a wait longer than 16 months and it is very expensive. So if it is a similar situation, I would say no, you have no leverage.

  • I would ask if they have a flexible spending account for dependent care, but otherwise, I'm afraid you have very little leverage.  Daycare is so expensive because it costs a tremendous amount to provide the service and the demand supports the prices.
  • A lot of universities have reduced tuition for children of employees, so it's not crazy to just ask the question if there are employee and non employee rates.
