Ounces of WCM vs formula/bm

When I make the switch to WCM, do I give her a sippy with the same amount as what she normally has in her sippy now with formula?  At daycare she takes 5 ounces of formula 3x a day, so do I give them three 5-ounce sippies of milk?

  • Does she drink the formula at mealtime? I only offer WCM at meals.

  • I switched to WCM a couple of weeks ago with the doctor's okay because Kate was refusing bottles and formula. The doctor didn't specify so I just give her a sippy cup 3/4 full during meals and right before bed. She never finishes all of it. Some on here said their doctors said no more than 16 oz. There aren't oz on our sippy cups, but I would guess she drinks around 12-15 oz/day. I give her sippy cups of a small amount of juice mixed with water throughout the day in between meals.

I continue to give the same amounts.  I see no reason why it would change.

  • I think I'll start by giving the same amount. DD had 3 4oz bottles of BM at the sitter. And I bf when we are together. I plan on replacing 1 bottle of BM with a sippy of wcm per week until she's only taking sippys of wcm at the sitters. I'll adjust accordingly if I think she needs more or less.

We have her 1 yr apt next week so I'll discuss with her pedi. Why ate there so many decisions!?!?!?

Everything I have from Gerber and his pediatrician's office says four 4oz bottles of WCM a day, so that's what we do.

I don't give them to him with meals though, which you're "supposed" to do. If he's thirsty while he's eating, he just gets a sip of my water or whatever, since we always eat together. I save his bottles for nap or bedtime, since it cues to him that it's time to calm down and get ready to go to sleep.

  • DD gets three sippys of wcm a day. We don't offer it at meals. I feel like she will get to full from it and not eat all her food. We offer it first thing in the morning, at afternoon snack, and about a half hour before bed. It is usually about 12-15oz. She gets water at meals and in between.

She does not.  I nurse her when we're together, so she'll nurse and then eat about an hour or two later.  That's why all of this is so confusing to me.

This is what we plan to do.  Charlotte currently sits in her high chair and eats three meals a day, plus three smaller snacks.  She has a straw cup with water at each meal.  Sometimes, especially when it's hot, she'll go get her straw cup while playing.

She also has three, 8-ounce bottles of formula: one before each nap, one at bedtime.  After she hits a year, I'll switch one at a time to WCM.  She turns one on August 31 and I'll probably start the transition to milk in mid- to late-September.  (I teach and she starts a new daycare on August 12, so I want to get past that and the beginning of the school year before major changes.  The PM nap bottle will be the first to switch since she takes that nap at home.  Then we'll switch the bedtime bottle, then the AM nap, and then switch them to straw cups after that!)
  • My DC provieds him with milk for his 2 snacks and 1 meal that he receives while is in daycare (they give him 4 - 5 oz each time).

All my pediatrician said was no more than 24 oz of WCM a day becasue it can interfere with iron absorption and since Tristan is slightly anemic she told me for him it was best to keep the milk to about 16 oz a day.

  • i think the guideline is 16 oz WCM but no more than 32 oz/day

  • 16-24oz a day. Too much and it can lead to anemia, since calcium absorbs iron. And you dont want them filling up on milk. Their main source of nutrition will be solids at a year.

Do you give warm or cold milk for this?
