***2 IF WEEKLY UPDATE***

Please provide a brief summary of your IF history and current situation. And welcome to the newbies who have just recently joined the 2IF board. I hope you will join us here.

Our History
1 DS who is 18 months (natural surprise) after 4 yrs MFI and 2 failed IUI's. TTC again and this is our second cycle.

QOTW: What is the worst or weirdest parenting advice you ever received?

I was once told by a coworker to help my son's teething to take an egg (no joke) and put it in a black sock and put in a box somewhere where light would not reach it.

Seriously I am not lying - someone told me that.

Re: ***2 IF WEEKLY UPDATE***

  • History: I have a DS from a long time ago previous relationship.  We have been trying for over 2 years now.  BFP in March that ended in April, ectopic that was removed surgically.
I have DOR & Endometriosis, referred to an RE due to damage from Endo.
Tomorrow more blood work to check my AMH levels after being on DHEA for 3 weeks, and waiting for AF to do the dye test again to see if my tubes need to be removed.

QOTW: What is the worst or weirdest parenting advice you ever received?  To not tickle a baby on their feet because they would grow up to be mute.

A raw egg, boiled or what? hehehe and for how long?   :-S
That definitely sounds like a good ol wives tale.

  • We've been trying since October 2011 with no success. First I had some FSH issues, but now I guess we have unexplained secondary infertility. Our first IUI was a bfn, and I go in for my cd3 ultrasound tomorrow to get the ball rolling on IUI #2. After this one, I may put ttc on hiatus for a while to focus on my family and my job. I hate how ttc has consumed my life.

Weird parenting advice... hmmm... I don't think I've been told anything too strange, but I've been given plenty of rude/nobody-asked-you parenting advice. When DD was 4 or 5 months (and, sidenote, already sitting up with good neck control), a woman at church leaned over to my husband and told him, "May I suggest you support the neck?"  She was sleeping on his chest and completely supported. We were so dumbstruck and wanted to say something rude to her, but, well, being in church and all kind of prevented that! :)

Freakyfast - I don't recall the details of that advice anymore. I just thought it was the most insane thing I have ever heard. LOL. And I've done some crazy crap and usually will try anything at least once but but not sock eggs!

MJC- I was once HONKED out in a church parking lot! LOL.
I can't believe that lady told you that! And if she had caught me on a pms day church or not I probably would have told her what she could do with her parenting advice. ;))

    Chrissy- you're lucky!

I asked the question because it wasn't til I had my son did I realize the crazy stuff people suggest when it comes to children.

  • History: 3 yo DD conceived after vericocele surgery and DH took clomid.  Been ttc #2 since DD was 3 months old.  Last fall DH developed epilepsy, which put ttc on hold for about 6 months.

Update: Finally did our 2nd IUI, and I am waiting for AF or to test.  Tested at 9dpo and got a BFN. Having minor symptoms.  I will test by end of the week if no AF.

QOTW:  No strange advice that I can remember.  Although my best friend got mad at me for not punishing my child when she bit her son.  We had found that punishment didn't work, and that calmly talking to her and making her apologize was more effective.  So sad that such a small thing could cause a major problem with someone that was supposed to be my best friend.

  • I'm a little late to the party but I figure ill join in since I'm new. I had DD in October of 2011 with no problems during the pregnancy or birth. After DH got home from deployment in August of 2012 we started trying. Miscarriage Dec/Jan 2013, miscarriage Feb 2013, and diagnosed today with a blighted ovum. Currently being tested for RPL. Parenting advice...hmmm. The only thing I can think of is at my baby shower my friend, who has no kids of her own, told me to always tell my daughter yes unless it was something that would hurt her. Yea, no.

  • With DS, he was conceived 1st month. We've been trying for over a year for #2. Today is CD 1. I was hoping the 12th cycle would be the charm. The d/x so far is MFI (low testosterone), 2nd sperm analysis came back normal. We see the Fertility Specialist on the 16th for the first time.
Nothing weird, just the same things over and over. I guess the most common was all the recommendations for DS to co-sleep with us. I didn't want to bark down that tree.

  • CMDR- that's funny usually I feel like the advice is not co-sleep... first 5 months DS slept in a bassinet in our room but never in our bed. (He was preemie so he fit in the bassinet for quite some time).

After that we transitioned him to big crib in his room and he's been there ever since. I'm not against co-sleeping we just didnt have to because we are extremely lucky in the sleep department. It's been without a hitch (knock on wood)

  • Oh my gosh, EVERYONE told us we were crazy for not having DD sleep with us at all when she was an infant. She was in her room from day 1. But, our house was tiny and she was so close to us, we didn't even need a monitor. She started sleeping through the night at 7 weeks...and has been a power sleeper ever since. She still takes long naps (much to my excitement! Mommy break!) So every sleep-deprived parent who told us we were horrible for putting her in her crib at that age -- I just say thank you with a smile and move on. :)

I'm so glad we have so many new people here! (Well, I'm sorry we are all dealing with the bs that is IF, and I hope we don't stay here long!) But it's nice having a good sized support group! :) Welcome everyone!

  • Our History
Conceived DD with no issues, currently in 1st IUI cycle using DH's previously frozen sperm.

    QOTW
I've heard a lot of weird parenting tips - I was told to never cut DD's fingernails but to blow on them. Not really sure how that was supposed to work.

I've heard a lot of different tips on using eggs to cure illness - I think it may be a cultural thing.
