March 2013 Moms

are your babies sleeping through the night?

For the last month, my 4 month old has been sleeping between 7-10 hours per night. How many of you have had this happen yet? Also, To help keep up my milk production, I've been setting an alarm for 3am to pump. I'm just wondering if I should just go with the flow and get my sleep? I have a sufficient supply of frozen milk in a deep freeze right now.

Re: are your babies sleeping through the night?

  • My LO has pretty much been sleeping all night (9ish-6ish, sometimes longer) since about 7/8 weeks.  I've been exclusively pumping all along, and I think it was around this time that I dropped my middle of the night pump.  By the time I returned to work (when LO was 10 weeks old), I was down to 4 pumps a day, sometimes 3.  Just as long as I don't go over 8 hours, I'm fine.  I've never had any supply issues.

  • My LO has also been sleeping for 6+ hours since very early (like 4-5 weeks).  I have never pumped in the middle of the night, and my supply has always been fine.  Although I do have a bit of an oversupply so that probably contributes.  At the beginning I did not pump at all and fed on demand, and she was going 5-6 hours at night at that time, so I think my supply just regulated to that timing.  I did wake up terribly engorged and leaky for a month or so, but now I am just full in the mornings, but not leaking or painful at all.

Me too ... I was pretty engorged for a few weeks until I regulated.  *FINALLY* got to ditch those stinkin' breast pads a couple weeks ago!
  • I've never pumped in the middle of the night and my supply has been fine when he sleeps through the night (since about 8 weeks).  Talk about being engorged in the morning, though.  I pump the other side in the morning since DS only eats from one side.
I do this too now that I'm back to work.  The first few days I didn't, and I quickly realized I was walking around with majorly lopsided boobs for the first couple hours of my day!

  • Not even close! If I get 2 straight hours of sleep I consider it a good night :(
  • My Lo has been sttn since 2 mo. He had done it a few times before that but once we moved him into his own room it was regular. We had about a week of adjusting after we stopped swaddling him where he woke up twice per night but now he sleeps 8-12 hrs a night.
  • Yup. 10 to 12 hours a night since 3 months. He's a chunk and a half, though, so that helps, and he's been a good self soother since he was tiny. I got off lucky this time. My first was a reflux baby and had bad sleep ossues because of it.

  • Well this thread quickly made me feel sorry for myself. I'm holding on to a thread of hope that he will sleep more than three hours straight, at night, SOON. Please? - exhausted momma
  • Jake sleeps very well (at least 6-8 hours continuously) most nights. Occasionally, he'll wake up once or twice.

  • DS sleeps 9:30 to 7:30 with one wake up around 3. We were doing so well going right back to sleep, but the last week he wants to play at 3:30. I'm ready for better sleep.

  • My LO sleeps between 7 - 10 hours as well. I try to pump before i go to bed ( 10ish) since he usually goes down around 7 - 7:30 pm. This way I can keep up my milk and not feel engorged by the time his next feeding comes around.
