Were My Hopes Too High for Injections?

Ok, I need to hear from those of you who have experience with injectables. I am doing my first injectables cycle. I did 5 days of Bravelle 150 iu starting on CD4. I went in for monitoring this morning (CD 9), and things basically didn't look too great. My lining was a 6 (I know it's still early - so not super concerned about that). I had a bunch of smaller follicles. I think my three biggest were 2 9mm on the right and 1 9mm on the left. Also, at my baseline appointment, I think I had about 10 follies on my right side, but this time I had about 15, and I already had 2 9mm on my right at baseline, so those apparently didn't grow at all?? So, it seems like the meds made me produce more follies, but didn't make the ones I already had grow a whole lot? I don't know.

My nurse called me this afternoon to let me know that my E2 was at a 58 (only up from 33 at baseline), so they are upping my meds to 225 iu for 4 more days, then I go back on Monday morning for more monitoring. Does this sound right to you guys? Should I be going back for monitoring sooner than that? Should I have been at a higher dose of Bravelle to begin with? Do people usually have to do a second round of injections?

I'm just stressed out and worried that the higher dose won't work because that will be even more money. We are already at about $1,000 OOP (which I know is nothing compared to what many of you have to pay!!!), but still, it just seems like so much money.

Anyway, any and all advice is very much appreciated. I'm feeling upset, frustrated, and extremely disappointed that my body won't do what it's supposed to do naturally even while taking all these meds.

You can look at my blog posts from late Jan and early May for stats from my last two inject cycles. I was like that on cd9 in Jan and that was my bfp chem preg cycle so I do think low and slow is a good thing, I just ended in the 30%of mc for my age....

    Thanks, y'all.

@Katib77 - do you think having me not go in for more monitoring until Monday is alright since my biggest follies are only at 9mm? I read your posts and it did make me feel a bit better.

I stimmed for 20 days this cycle. I did gonal f. On CD14(fri) I had 3 follicles (9-11mm)that were hanging around the same size for days... E2 wasn't great either(low 60s). RE told me to keep with the gonal f until following Monday and would switch meds if nothing happen. Well my body decided to cooperate and the next apt I had 3 decent sized follicles and great e2 levels. We were able to proceed with IUI this past weekend. Maybe you're just a slow responder like I was? Just try and stay positive over the weekend. :) Good luck.

I have gone 3-4 days between monitoring US when my follies were that small.  It sounds like the RE has a good plan in place with upping the meds.  Good luck!

Hi...this was my first round of injectables and it was a little stressful and definitely a chunk of money since we are OOP too. Here is how my experience went...

Day 3 I started follistim at 125iu per night from 7/18-7/23. My next scan on 7/22 I had one follie at 14mm. My next scan was on 7/24 the 14mm was gone. I thought we were done for this cycle but I got a call from the nurse that said my E2 was still at a good level and they upped me to 150iu for 7/24-25. I had no action so my scan and bw on 7/26 they upped me to 175iu for 6 more days and FINALLY we got our very first 17mm follie on Wednesday. I triggered last night and our first IUI is scheduled for this Saturday.

I know its hard to go in every 2 days and not see results but it will happen. They definitely have more control with the injectables than with oral meds. No oral meds we tried produced a follie.

I did research online when my 14mm follie vanished and it seems like not all follies are ready to mature or have an egg? Don't quote me on that! :o) So even though this whole time I have had 14 little follies on my left and 10 on my right. I only had one that matured for this cycle.

Hopefully this helps and isn't confusing. If so please feel free to PM me.

    Good Luck!!
