Genealogy

Has anyone ever traced theirs?  Or has someone in their family done it?  I haven't but I think it would be very interesting.  I don't know that I have the dedication, it seems like a lot of work and a large time commitment.

My mom has, she's actually a certified genealogist and has a degree. It's very doable nowadays w things like ancestry.com (tracing your family, not the degree).
The funny thing is bc of her there's nothing left for me to do! She has gone way way back. If she sends me one more barely legible 200 year old German document to translate I swear...it's funny I actually have no interest in it.
Do it! It's not simple but very doable and a gift to your whole family.

I found out I have Jewish relatives in South Africa! The crazy things my Irish immigrant relatives did in NY are the best though. Think Gangs of New York.

  • hmm, my dad was adopted, does that matter for genealogy tracing?
  • No not really, it's about family not genetics

  • I had to do some for a high school project. I traced my Dad's side back to the Mayflower and found out we are descended from John Alden.
  • I would like to for my husbands family. I don't even know his grandparents names and my MIL won't tell me much. All I know is my married name is Polish.
