3rd Trimester

Possibly lost mucus plug?

I don't remember this happening with my first pregnancy. I was induced at 39 weeks. But anyway, today after work I went to use the restroom and noticed a large amount of white/yellow discharge. It actually made me say aloud "That's a lot..." And it wasn't an accumulation because I went to the restroom 30 minutes before coming home and there was no discharge there at that time.

So my question.. should I tell the doctor? I go see the doctor again on Tuesday. I've had no contractions but I know the baby is getting real low.

From what I've googled thus far, it looks like nothing to worry about and it means labor will start in 2 to 3 weeks. Which is expected. I'm due Aug 18.

Just wanted opinions from the bump though. Thanks

Re: Possibly lost mucus plug?

  • Losing your mucus plus means nothing really. You can lose it and it grow back, you can lose it and go into labor, you can lose it and still not go into labor.

It could just be extra discharge. Nothing to really worry about.

  • Thanks for your reply. Yeah, it just sounded scary to me at first. But everything is still going normal. No contractions. She's moving like normal. I didn't know you could grow it back.. kinda interesting.

  • When I lost mine with my DS it looked like a jelly fish, that's the best way I can discribe it. I was 40+ weeks at the time and ended up being induced 0cm dilated and not effaced either a week later.
  • Lurking from 2nd tri, I lost mine twice with DS2. There was no mistaking what it was. It does mean things are happening I was 4cm dialated by the time I actually went into labor.

  • Yep. No biggie. Just mention to your dr as an FYI.
  • Your doctor doesn't really know, and it's not really a sign of imminent labor. If you want to mention it, fine, but they don't need to know.
