Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How long

Does it take your baby to finish a bottle? How msny ounces? My guy is eleven months old. I usually only put five ounces in. It is size three nipple and born free bottles. I swear he fakes me out. It seems as though he is sucking. I watch like a hawk to see but sometimes after like three minutes, I'll check and see he only drank one ounce. He tends to drink two ounces and then wants to get up and burp. Then he usually only drinks one more ounce. When I told this to doctor, she said that we will try Zantac. It's only been a week but I've seen no change. I'm just frustrated that he doesn't drink well. I feel like all day I am trying to get him to drink. I have twins so the other guy has to wait. Thanks for reading. Any thoughts?

Re: How long

  • Well, if you count the stopping to play...it can take DS almost an hour to drink 6 oz.  I just hand him his bottle and let him feed himself.  He'll usually take 3-4 oz. sets his bottle down and crawls off to play.  He keeps coming back to take a drink and then playing some more.  I was getting frustrated with trying to get him to just sit and drink the whole thing at one time.  He would start to refuse after 4 oz. because he wanted to play.  Probally not the most ideal but I want to keep his formula intake up for the next couple of months until we transition to WCM.

  • DD was EBF until about 9 months - so she only has about 6 weeks of bottle experience...

That being said - she usually only take 2-3 ounces (about 5 -7 mins), then want to go play. Then she will drink another 2-3 ounces about an hour later. It is not ideal, but as PP mentioned, I'm trying to keep her intake up.

  • My LO is 10 months old. He gets a 7 oz bottle when he wakes up in the morning and one before nap. He usually takes a 4 nipple for his first morning bottle which only takes him about 7-10 min to drink the whole thing. Before bed and naps I give him a 3 (so then that way he's practically asleep by the time he's done) which usually takes about 15 mins to complete. He  gets two 8 oz bottles one before his afternoon nap and one before bed.
