My husband and I went on a tour of our in-hospital birth center last night. We loved their policies and procedures and think we will have the birth experience that we want there, but we were both a little disapointed to see that it looks like a mix between a cheap hotel and an old hospital. Fancy facilities and state-of-the-art equipment aren't important to me, but I can't help but wonder if that is how most birth centers are. Can anyone share your experiences or impressions with your birth center? Oh, and if you're wondering, I'm talking about West Suburban Hospital in Chicago. Thanks!
Re: Birth Center Impressions
My birth center looks kind of like a grandma's house with a kick ass bath tub. There's one cart in each delivery room, with hospital type stuff, monitor etc. The rest of the supplies for delivery are kept in a closet in each room, so you don't really see them till the MW needs something.
It's not state of the art by any means, but really you don't need all the fancy stuff if you are going med free. It's like delivering at home, but someone else cleans up afterwards.
Weighing the pros and cons this places is the best for me and my family... but a spa hotel setting would sure be the icing on the cake! Mind if I ask where in the country you are?

Home like furniture; with sink, supplies, bathroom, and floor like a hospital. It was a good mix, comfortable, but easy to keep sanitary.
