Toddlers: 24 Months+

XP- 2 year old prefers to stand and potty.

DS (2 in 2 weeks) runs to potty every time by day 3 of no diapers but he won't sit when he actually has to pee. He'll sit to try but stands immediately when he feels pee coming. If I try to encourage him he runs away and becomes resistant to peeing. So, he's not having accidents as of today but he pees everywhere! Poop he squats and has had accidents. I'm not sure he "gets" the poop part yet. Should I offer special reward for sitting? Have him keep standing and work on aim? What about poop. Thanks!

  • There's a little potty that plays music when you pee into it.  That might help to get him to finish the deed.  I forgot which one but I'm pretty sure it has a fake toilet paper roll on the side and a face on it.

We used to sing tinkle tinkle little star when DS was first going and wait to hear the "tinkle" in the water.

    Hang in there!

  • Honestly, if he wants to stand, let him. Work on aim instead. Toss a couple cheerios in the toilet, tell him to try to pee on those and if he does, give praise!
For poop, maybe have him take a peek at DH and so he can see even when daddy's poop, they sit and not stand?
