make-up question

After last weeks discussion on wearing make-up I have a follow up question.
I have always had bad skin, both rosacea and acne. I don't ever leave the house without some sort of coverage.

For those of you who also need the coverage, what type of foundation or base do you wear? I am looking for something long lasting.

Have you ever tried using a primer?  I don't use it everyday, but when I want my makeup to stay longer, a primer seems to help.  It smooths out your skin and helps the makeup to stay put.

  • I use Make Up For Ever.
  • I start with MAC cream concealer on any blemishes or to even out my freckles followed by Nars pressing powder foundation with SPF.

Agree with PP-primer keeps make up on longer.

  • I use even better foundation by Clinique, it helps cover and reduce dark spots as well. I have extremely sensitive skin, so I use Clinique for everything.

  • I use Lorac.. Love it.

For primer, a friend who's a make up artist recommended using Monistat chafing gel - it's got the same ingredients as marketed primer, but at a fraction of the cost. Works great!

  • Definitely primer or the Monistat chafing gel (weird, but it's the same stuff, and it works). NYX Shine Killer works pretty well for me. For full coverage, I love Laura Mercier Silkcreme foundation. It's pricey (like $42), but it's the best full-coverage foundation I've ever used. I also like Clinique Superbalanced, which is more affordable.

For me, a good setting powder is really important, too, because I have an oily T-zone. My hands down absolute favorite is Tarte Smooth Operator. It's the only powder I've ever used that actually keeps my skin matte all day. I have not had to use one single blotting paper or reapply concealer since I started using it, and I used to have to blot and touch up at least once in the afternoon.

  • I use Bobbi Brown stick foundation.  It is yellow-based and matches my skin well.

I recently bought an Origins CC cream for days that I don't want to wear a full face of makeup.  It covers the redness in my skin.
  • I use Mary Kay crime to powder with a primer and I top it off with mineral powder.

  • I like a full coverage look due to a bad complexion and use Kat Von-D's foundation. I love it.

  • I use Tarte primer and then Dr. Dennis Gross tinted moisturizer (it seems a little odd to use a primer with a moisturizer but I swear it works great).  Previously, I used Bare Minerals and it really helped clear up my skin.
