UO Thursday

Re: UO Thursday

  • Do I get to post a birth announcement? :-)  My UO...I hate smart phones.  I mean, do we REALLY need internet access all. the. time?
I hate them too.  DH and I still have not given in to getting them, plus I am too cheap.  Verizon told me it would add another $60 a month onto our bill, which is ridiculous! Unfortunately, I think they will be one of the only options by the next time we are due for new phones or soon thereafter.

  • I love spaghettios and meatballs. MH says they smell like vomit. Oh well.

I think they smell like cat food. All chef boyardee does too. Ick!
  • This may not be a UO to some. I dislike what's happened to our BMB. I feel like I don't know anyone anymore! It's been overtaken by strangers. I feel myself getting more annoyed daily and hardly open posts or comment anymore, unless I know the name. Boo!

Yes! Yesterday I did a double take because I saw a birth announcement post with my very soon to be DS' name in the headline.....nobody here has ever mentioned considering that name before and I was kinda like "who the F is this?".
Yea, I haven't seen any other Alexandra/Lexi's mentioned - god help the drive-by that uses my name.
Oh believe me, it took all self control not to sh*t snark all over her thread.

  • My UO is apparently that I like the Enchirito from Taco Bell. That is all I've ever gotten there since I was a kid. Went to order it last night and apparently they don't sell them anymore. I had to hold back tears and keep myself from going crazy pregnant lady on the poor cashier. Still craving that dang Enchirito I can never have!
I'm sorry :( I could still cry over the loss of the chili cheese burrito and that happened like 10 years ago.

  • I hate to take the religious route, but look at it like this, if God truly didn't want us to eat from the tree of knowledge, why the hell did he put it there in the first place? We have to have the option to do bad things for good decisions to mean anything.

From the studies I have done, I believe that the purpose of the said tree is to give man the choice to obey. Someone choosing to follow you creates a much more meaningful relationship than being forced to do so.

I know what you're saying. The point was that if eating from the tree was such a horrible thing, why was the tree put there in the first place? God gave us a *choice* (to obey or not). For me, I see abortion (the non-medically necessary kind) in the same light. You have to have the *choice* between doing it or not for the decision to mean something. Outright outlawing something eliminates/detracts from the meaning behind it.

I'm not disagreeing with you, lol.

LOL! In all seriousness though, I kinda agree... A thong or anything that could remotely go up towards my buttcrack is not on my list of favorite underwear right now!

The statement above is similar to the line of reasoning I usually end up using every time I get into a debate with someone over the religious necessity/benefit of a "dry county", which I had never heard of before moving to Arkansas; if the reason the churches around here don't want people to drink is because it's considered a sin, wouldn't it be more meaningful for an individual to face the temptation and have resisted it/ chosen against it, rather than be told by some higher authority that he's not allowed to have access to it?

Ultimately the answer to both of these issues is that legally, religion has no bearing (at least, as long as we're talking U.S.) We aren't a Christian theocracy, so something being a sin simply isn't sufficient grounds to make it illegal.
    .
Which is ultimately why I'm pro-choice. Could I ever have an abortion? Thankully I've never been in that position, so I can't say for sure, but I don't think so. And I would try to talk anyone near and dear to me who was thinking of getting one out of it. But ultimately, I feel I have to recognize that I don't know anyone else's situation, I have no right to judge, and it's a decision that needs to be left to the woman, her doctor, and anyone else SHE feels might have helpful input.

Not to mention the evidence in our own history and all over the world of the negative impact of making it illegal (back-alley abortions, women dying because of being denied medically necessary abortions, etc).

Honestly, I think if you're pro-life, by far the best thing you can do is to focus on promoting things that have been proven to reduce the need for abortions in the first place - educate young women both in general and about their own bodies/health, provide easy and inexpensive access to birth control, and promote comprehensive sex education to teens and young adults.
