I just read (twice!) that for the majority of women, your water doesn't really break when you start going into labor. Then my bff's nurse told her that at the hospital where she's delivering, probably 85% of women that come in have their waters ruptured by the hospital staff.
For some reason, this is kind of freaking me out. I mean, all my life I've been led to believe that your water breaking is pretty much how you know you're going into labor. Or that it might even happen well before the contractions really set in. Or that it would at least probably happen once labor sets in, and that it's rare for women to get into heavy labor and NOT have their water break. Is this not true??
Did your water break???
Re: Did your water break?
My water didn't break.
I had significant contrx at home, called my OB for a check-up to see how far along I was. When I got to their office I was already 6.5 -- they sent me directly to the hospital, the broke my water there.

Yes my water broke. I was having back labor and that is what told me, hey this is the real thing. I think I would have figured it out pretty soon though
I think the water breaking image is just from movies/tv

Water broke.
11pm at work working super late with a client - totally freaked her out by the way! I had no contractions or any other typical labor symptoms. DH picked me up and checked into the hospital at 3cm. Contx showed up on the monitors but to me they felt like Braxton Hicks. Started pitocin the next morning at 11:00 after only progressing 1cm on my own. John was born at 2:35pm that day. It wasn't a huge gush, just started as a trickle then more of a constant drip all night - real comfy!
