Baby's Nursing Personality

What's your baby's nursing personality?  There are five types and you can check them out here:  https://www.parenting.com/article/your-babys-nursing-style?page=0,0

E is a Rester which means nursing can take forever as she falls asleep often while nursing often. You can't rush her at all so when it's eating time I'm stuck for awhile (like right now).

Do you have a Rester or maybe a barracuda?

Re: Baby's Nursing Personality

  • I know this was meant for BF babies but can definitely apply to FF babies too. Mine is the Procrastinator. Can sometimes take her an hour to finish 4 ounces. Has a little, takes a break, has a little more, takes a break. Get's frustrating for sure!

  • I have a barracuda apparently! She finds her latch and goes to town, snorting away! When she is sleepier she makes a cute "hunh" noise every time she breathes.
  • E on the bottle seems to have more of a barracuda personality...go figure!

  • Definitely the barracuda! LO doesn't play around!

  • DD has been 3 different types. In the hospital a sleepy little procrastinator that would not nurse. Then a lovely barracuda for a couple weeks which killed my nipples! After a nice session with an LC and a calmer baby, she is a rester and will nap during and after meals.

  • DD is normally a barracuda, but when she isn't feeling well, she becomes Excited but Ineffective. She wreaks havoc on my nipples. For a while she was a Rester, but now I'm lucky if she dozes at all after nursing.
  • At various times, my little guy is every type except the Procrastinator.  He'll often start out as a Barracuda or an Excited but Ineffective and then turn into a Rester.  Every now and then he'll do the Gourmet thing, but that didn't start until after we introduced the bottle so I think it has a little to do with some nipple confusion.
  • Alex is a mix between barracuda and excited but ineffective.

This is exactly my LO too!

  • Owen is a barracuda for sure!!

  • Rester. Can't get the girl to stay awake but she sucks for like an hour... I try to put her down, then I have a tired cranky baby... and have to nurse her back to sleep... :)

This describes my little LO, all I do is nurse all day!

  • Usually DD is a barracuda on the first side, and gourmet on the second side.  She does this ridiculous thing on the second side where she smiles and cuts her eyes back and forth while I'm trying to get her to latch, and then sticks her tongue out to "test" it.  It never fails to make me laugh, even in the middle of the night! :)

  • Barracuda. Evelyn always took 20-30 minutes to feed, he gulps it down in 5-10 minutes tops.
