A ridiculous birthday question

Wasn't there a birthday parties board at one point? I can't find it. Anyhow, I came over from my BMB to ask parents who've already celebrated a birthday. I'm doing a Mickey Mouse theme and ordering DS a white tshirt that has a 1 and Mickey ears from etsy. When it's time to let him dig into his cake.... Do I keep the shirt on then change him? Should I change him prior to cake? I don't mind if the shirt gets trashed, but then I would need to change him. How did you handle it? k

Re: A ridiculous birthday question

  • My DDs 2nd birthday is also Mickey Mouse themed. I would switch shirts, eat cake, clean him up, then put his birthday shirt back on.
You will never know how much you mean to me my little jelly Bean.

  • Bib!  We did Cat in the Hat, and I also had a shirt made from Etsy...the lady also made a bib...or you could by one of the larger bibs with Mickey Mouse on it.  (We have some of those with the pockets as well.) There's like one small blue stain on his sleeve shirt from his smash cake.

  • We let him keep his shirt on. He wasn't going to wear it again and I'm glad we kept it on because he looked crazy cute in all of his cake pictures. We did cake last so it wasn't a big deal to change him into a different shirt because the party was over.  We just picked something from his closet... Nothing special.

  • Thanks for not making me feel like I am crazy for over thinking this! I'm thinking if I do his cake last, it's no big deal to trash the shirt and change him.

  • There is still a birthday parties board-- it's just hidden. Go to the drop down at the upper right where it says "choose another board," go to "The Bump Message Boards" and it's in the list there. They did this with a couple of boards and it's the only way to find them now.

  • We left him in his shirt and I brought a clean shirt with us.  I ended up not changing him into it though.  He was having too much fun and then crashed for a little nap.

  • You guys bathed them in the middle of their party?

I did. They made such messes with their cakes that a bath was totally necessary. There was no good way to wipe them down. With DD1 I left her dress on for cake. Huge mistake. There was frosting everywhere. So, for DD2 I took it off and let her eat/play with cake in just a diaper.

It was towards the end of the party, but yes. We bathed him while everyone else had cake/cupcakes. It was a quick bath.
We did this too. We actually bathed him in the kitchen sink right in front of God and everybody! It was mostly family and all the grandparents loved the bath part b/c they don't usually get to be a part of him splashing around in water. I didn't plan for the bath to be part of the entertainment but that's how it turned out.

  • We stripped DD down to her diaper cover and a bib. I then bathed her quickly in the kitchen sink afterwards. It made for some cute pictures!
  • I would let him wear the nice one until cake time, then switch to a onesie or other t. Then change again later if necessary. My daughter wore a nice shirt the whole time and a bib, but she is oddly dainty, and didn't get messy at all. My bff's son on the other hand was a hot mess the whole time. If you really want to keep the shirt, switch it out for cake-ing. Have fun!

  • I had a backup outfit.  My daughter got chocolate all over her onesie when she ate only a little bit of mini cupcake.  But it was okay, and we got some cute photos.  We changed her into a dress, because we were going to be taking family photos at the end of the birthday party.

  • LO didn't really get that dirty but we stripped him down just in case.

Then wiped him down and put shirt back on him.
