Too much fruit?

Um, is it possible to give your child too much fruit?!  I just realized what I give her daily and it's a bit much.

  • Oatmeal with apples & blueberries
  • Applesauce
  • A banana
  • Cottage cheese mixed with a fruit puree
  • Mandarin oranges

During the day she also gets pancakes, toast w/cream cheese, and then dinner is whatever we're usually eating.  I don't think I'm giving her enough veggies!

  • I'm in the same boat as you. DS LOVES his fruit.  Veggies are extremely difficult to get him to eat.  I have to come up with some alternative ways for him to get his veggies.

I have a hard time getting ds to eat veggies. I think I am going to try some pasta with veggie purée as sauce. I've tried this with the Ferber graduates ravioli and it seems to work.

Liam loves greenbeans and broccoli.  They get very soft, so its easy for him to eat.  Maybe try some spinach too.  If you can get carrots soft enough those are awesome.  But we are major fruit fans over here too.

  • I mix her fruit and veggies. Like, spinach and mango, or broccoli and peaches. It kind of sounds weird, but she eats more veggies that way. I figure they do it with purees, right? But fruit is good for them too!

  • Try mixing veggies with other things LO will eat. We do corn, carrots, peas, and green beans with instant brown rice cooked in chicken or beef broth insted of water. Or broccoli with cheese melted on it. Carrots with cinnamon sprinkled on it. There are others but I am drawing a blank right now.

  • G will only eat vegetables in soup. I made chicken tortilla soup and he's been eating it like it's his lifeline, lol! It has corn, tomatoes, and green chiles, so I call that a win. Other than that, I haven't gotten him to touch veggies.

  • My kid is the opposite. He will turn orange from eating too many carrots before he gets full eating fruit, well except for maybe peaches. He will eat more peach and banana than other fruit. But veggies, he goes to town on.
  • I adore fruit and DH always worries about too much sugar.  There's actually an article on the NY Times website today that is one of the "10 most e-mailed articles" about how good it is to eat a wide variety of fruit.

  • Koa ate apples for dinner...seriously. I tried giving him taco meat with cheese and lasagna noodles (I didn't have soft tortillas) with a couple of apple pieces on his tray and he inhaled the apples then kept reaching for the rest. When I stopped giving them to him, he ate like 3 bites of the other stuff then started dropping it off the side of his tray to the floor. I might have to start doing the fruit=dessert thing...

  • My kid is weird. He will devour the chicken and throw everything else off his tray. I don't get it.
