January 2013 Moms

I cant believe this is happening.

My big freezer stopped working. I had my whole stash in there, about 120 oz, all thawed out. There are no words for this feeling. I'm so upset.

  • Here is hoping for ice crystals.
    I am so sorry.
  • Oh my gosh.  Maybe you can use it to feed LO for the next few days and pump, rather than nurse, for most feedings to rebuild.

  • Oh it got worse. The freezer didn't break, that I could have dealt with. But no. Dh unplugged it because he needed the extension cord for the leaf blower and forgot the milk was in there.

  • You don't have to abandon ship! Was it totally warm?  If not, you can refreeze it.  When you go to use it just do a smell test. If it smells foul, throw it out by all means. If not, you can use it! I follow a breastfeeding expert from Isis parenting on twitter and found myself in the same situation when I accidentally left the door on my deep freezer open.  She said that I could refreeze it. I did and my girls ate it without any issues.

Oh no, does he feel like sh!t? I'm sure he feels dreadful! That super sucks & again, so sorry!
  • That sucks big time!  I second the idea of feeding DD the thawed milk the rest of the week (really it should be like 4 to 5 days worth), and pump to build the supply back up.

That is definitely a nightmare of mine!

  • oh I am send go many big hugs your way!  I would be sitting in the middle of the floor crying!  I agree with a PP - would you be able to feed it today and pump so you don't have to throw it.  I would not physically be able to throw it, someone else would have to do it!
  • I'm so sorry! I hope that you can save it.
