Naps.....

So LO suddenly out of nowhere started doing AMAZING at night, but now he won't nap. They've always been a struggle for us, and it seems whatever works for a while will stop and never work again. I used to be able to rock him and put him in his pnp, then that stopped, then it was rocking but I couldn't put him down, then nursing, then nursing it bed and I'd get up once he was asleep, then he started getting up as soon as I'd leave. So I've basically given up.... How o how are people getting their LOs to nap?? Right this moment he's in his crib fussing, I'm hoping he'll eventually tire himself out and nap, although it's not looking good.

Re: Naps.....

  • Both my kids only napped well on their own once they rolled to their belly. Now she will give me a solid two hour nap and a shorter nap in the morning.

  • I only get to have nap time on the weekends, so I make the most of them. I nap with her. It's my favorite weekend activity, by far.

  • The past couple days I've been nursing him in our bed, he falls asleep, and I let him nap there. At least I can get up that way, instead of him napping on me. And at least he doesn't have the constant motion that he does on a walk/car ride/swing. The only downside is that I don't really leave the room much at all then.

But he's always slept through the night since about 6 weeks.... so I figured we will get there with the naps at some point.

Maybe what PP said, and once he starts rolling, he will nap better. But at the rate he's going, he'll be sitting and standing before he rolls.....
  • My Lo has never really taken naps. I try, every. Single. Day. But it's a rare treat.
  • The crazy thing about rolling is he does back to belly all the time, never belly to back, but he doesn't roll in his sleep.
  • Ugh, I was going to post something similar, my son won't nap either. Great night sleeper, horrible napper. I also stick him in his crib everyday and he will cry for 30 min and only sleep for 20. I would love a good hour or two so I could get some stuff done, or rest a little myself!

  • My DD sleeps great at night and barely naps too - she usually does 3 short 20-30 min naps.  She is happy the rest of the day, so I am just going with it, hoping they will stretch out as she gets older.  She is usually a bit cranky by the end of the day, but when I get home from work she nurses and usually falls asleep for a 45 min nap, so maybe that's making up for the lack of sleep during the day?  I am hoping some day to get long naps, but I'd rather have full nights of sleep for now. :)

  • DS sleep schedule just went through a huge change. He's going to bed at a decent time finally and sleeps until about 6:30-7am with one wake up around 2-3. When he started going to bed earlier he stopped sleeping as much during the day. He now only takes 3 naps, sometimes 2, but they are decent 1-2 hours. I was trying to get him to sleep more often along with his eat, play, sleep routine. Now he just doesn't need as many naps. Are you trying to get him to sleep too often? I ask because that's what I was doing.

  • From about noon on it's a fight to get a nap in, I'll feed, try for a nap, if nothing we play and walk around until an hour has passed & try again.
