Babysitting Prices

I also posted on the WM board. I'm going back to work on 9/11. DS will be 2 1/2 months old. My mom will be babysitting him 3 days a week from 9:15-6:30 sometimes 7:30. I told her I'd pay her for those 3 days. How much do you think is a reasonable amount? TIA!

Re: Babysitting Prices

  • My cousin is watching my LO (she has an in home daycare). She has her Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:20 to 5:25 and she charges me $90. I'm not sure what she charges someone who isn't family but from what I heard, I got a pretty good deal!!

    Is this rate weekly?

  • That's a steal if its the weekly rate!

It all depends on where you live and the cost of living for sure. The in home daycare we are going to is only $25 a day. But I live in a small town with 600 people in the Midwest.

Since its your mom, I also imagine she wouldn't take as much as a daycare..

This is almost exactly me! Ours is $20 a day. I know my relatives wouldn't ask for money though so I might even take them up on it. They get bonding time, you get a financial break!
  • I am also using an in home day care in a small town and being charged $25 a day.

  • In-home daycare around here is $30-35/day for an infant.  Our one-on-one daycare provider charges $4/hour.

    This $150/day business is CRAZY!

At my old job it was like 200/week or higher for a newborn. And they were wait listed!

  • I used to work at a daycare and they charged $250 a week for an infant. This was in a suburban setting.

  • I paid $165 a week for one of the nicest daycares in the area when DD #1 was an infant.  She went M-F from 7:30 to 5:15 or so, but they were open 6:30-6.  We live in a LCOL area.

  • Wow! These prices are nuts! I paid $25/day for in home. That was with DS 1. For now, I'm staying home with both DS 1 and 2.
