I'm going to try my hand at making one or look for one on Etsy. I'm not willing to spend $60 on one though! I know it isn't necessary but I'd like to feel all cute
I brought my own nursing night gown to wear after DD delivery but I would not waste money on a delivery gown- it'll just be worn once and then be all bloody and yuck. Just my opinion.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!
i like the idea. a close friend of mine sews and i've already talked to her about making me one. i want to be cute in our first family photo, even if my hair and face look like crap!
Please don't spend money on a special delivery gown. Labor is a gross process and that grossness gets everywhere. I like to change my laboring mom's gowns as soon as I can after delivery. Save it and get a cute nursing gown to wear after the baby is born.
Not worth it and some hospitals won't let you wear your own. I brought a nursing night gown with a robe. I just put the light weight robe on for pictures.

that's actually what i was thinking.... wear whatever for labor, change into something nice afterwards. maybe have someone bring me a face wipe!
I'm not paying money for something I'll bleed and shit all over. That'd wreck the lovely "first photo" anyway.
And really, if you're looking at those first photos of you gazing at your child and thinking you look terrible, you're missing the point.
Some of the most gorgeous photos I've ever seen of my friends show them with sweaty faces, no make up, messy hair, and this beautiful expression on their face as they meet their child.
I just wear their gowns, that way I don't have to worry about stains or washing stuff right away when I get home. I just take a decent robe to wear for pics.
I do have several nursing nightgowns for at home, but it's usually cool enough in here that I have sleep pants on under the nightgown, and a button-up sweater on, too, so...I'm never fashionable. Comfortable, yes. Fashionable, no.
Keep in mind also that if you have to have a C-section, you won't be able to wear your own delivery gown. If you're in labor for 24+ hours the gown will be wrinkly and nasty anyway and will you really feel like posing for cutesy pictures at that point? lol Moms are always glowing in pictures because they are so in love with their baby (babies). No one cares about what gown you gave birth in.
I think you should deliver in whatever makes you most comfortable, yes birth is a dirty process but comfort is key. From the few births I've been in on the comfiest mamas had the best experiences. If that means hospital gowns and no make up go for it, if it means buying a special gown do that.
I delivered near naked by the end because I was so hot and sweaty while pushing. The gown could be worn during labor for some modesty while walking the halls, but I'd personally take it off before the 'fun' starts and maybe put it on again for afterwards because they are nursing friendly. In reality, I'll wear the hospital gown, then hopefully put on my swimsuit for the water birth and put on real comfy clothes afterwards .
Like most others said, labor is a messy business, I wouldn't bring my own gown. What I opted for with DS was flannel button up PJs. I really only wore the top but it was warmer than a night gown while still giving me the access I needed to nurse.
While I plan on wearing the hospital gown, like I did with DS, I think people should do what makes them comfortable. I don't remember changing out of my labor gown after the birth...I don't think it got very messy like others mentioned (but I could be completely wrong and just not remember). Last time I wore the hospital gown until bed time when I changed into my pjs.
I wore the gowns that were provided and then (after allowed) I took a shower and put on pj capri bottoms and a nursing tank top. It was July and hot!! This time I will probably do the same, but just full length pants & socks. I have friends who took pretty nursing gowns for their stay & didn't end up wearing them. Most hospitals send you home within 24 hrs (depending on delivery type). I would just save them for home.
I like the gowns called pretty pushers they are cute, but you'll have to throw away after labor anyway. It's around $30 dollars. You could definitely change into something comfy afterwards instead!

THIS!
Im a capri and tank top girl no matter what time of the year. With both my boys I was up and showered and dressed into my own clothes within a couple hours of delivery.
My hospital won't let you wear anything but their gowns for laboring. I changed into yoga pants and tank top as soon as they let me get up to pee/shower. I was so annoyed I couldn't even keep my sleep bra on....

This is because if they had to get you in for an emergency C-section they'd have to cut the bra/other clothes off of you quickly and get to the baby.

Oh I know why...it just annoyed me....I never go braless so it was just awkward...
I don't really care how insane people think it is, I deserve to feel pretty not frumpy and if that means I'm chunking the cute gown after childbirth then so be it
With my first, my aunt bought me the most fabulously soft jammies to put on afterwards.
After hours of having strangers stare at your lady parts, its nice to get clean and put on something that makes you feel more like YOU.. or just clean and comfy.
If you wanna buy a pretty gown for it.. go for it!

Before you spend money check your hospital's policies. Many require you to use your robes.
And I really promise frumpy will be the last thing on your mind!
No way! It was nice not to have to worry about my own stuff getting gross. I did bring my own comfy outfit for the day after delivery and it felt great to get up, shower, and put on my own clothes. But by that point the nastiness was confined to an enormous maxi pad

I'm going to buy one of the super cute gowns to wear while at the hospital so that I can feel semi normal after having my baby as my 'gift to me from me'.

I would not spend money on a gown. I ended up being completely nude when I delivered DD. trust me, when you are pushing out a watermelon, you won't care who sees what I think I wore a gown right after birth but wore my own clothes after that.
Re: Fashion delivery gowns.
Mom to Lily and Colin!

And keep in mind if you're making one, there have to be all these specific access points - so do your research!
