VBAC or RCS?

I am so confused... I want both for so many reasons. The whole pregnancy I have been sure I want a VBAC, but with my DH just starting a new job and already up for a promotion I think it would be better if he could just request a day off in advance I can give a sure date to my work and everything can be scheduled perfectly, but the recovery I won't be able to but my twins in their beds I won't be able to hold them for several weeks.

I can't decide, any thoughts?

Re: VBAC or RCS?

  • I'm having the same conflict, except I'm trying to figure out which would be the safer option

  • The vbac board is a great resource. As far as safety, there are risks with both. I had a one layer uterine closure with DS, so my risk of uterine rupture with a vbac is between 1.5-3% instead of around .75%. I'm still going to try for a vbac because my labor progressed quickly and went well last time, but DS was face presentation. If he wasn't, I think I could have done it.

I highly recommend against making this choice based on what works with your schedule. Natural birth is so much better for baby, if you can do it. Good luck making your decision!

  • If I had the option I would VBAC because of the recovery time, but I am not a good candidate for a VBAC.  If I was in your situation I would defiantly go for the VBAC.... I know its not as convenient as the RCS, but you will be thankful once you don't have to go through a CS recovery....

  • I am going to try for a VBAC. The recovery was tough for me last time, especially trying to care for a toddler & newborn at the same time. This time I will have 2 little ones & a newborn & I really would like to feel as well as I possibly can.

  • I am having similar issues. I really want to VBAC just to know I did it, but I had an abnormally amazing c-section and recovery. My DH can't understand why on earth I wouldn't want to do that again. I may have another breech baby, so it might be a moot point. However, I'd like to try.

Complicating things is that my father has been given a few months left to live (lung & now bone cancer), and that's coinciding with my due date. Now, I really don't know what the hell I want to do. Before we found this out this week I had scheduled my RCS for 41 weeks, I may just move it up so I have a definitive date.

    It's such a hard decision!

  • I haven't had a section BUT I had a natural birth last time, and this time I'm having a csection because of Previa (unless it magically moves)... I'm really bummed about it and if I had a choice I would absolutely have a vaginal birth, even if i have had a section before. I'm sad I won't be able to pick up DD for so long etc. and regular births are awesome.
  • I've had 2 c sections, one was a failed vbac due to a short umbilical cord. My doc said that he would prefer if I had another section, but if I went into labor before my scheduled date that he would let me do a trial of labor. I've had on my 3 girls vaginally, so its not like my body doesn't know what its doing, I've just had some issues that I had nothing to do with. Either way though, a baby will be coming out of this body, and as long as he is healthy, I'm not to worried about how he gets here.

  • Same issue here, Dh thinks having another c-section is safer since I know what to expect.
  • This is my third repeat c section. I just felt, given the info, that this was the right option for me. Everyone is different, though. Good luck!
