I've heard that forward facing carriers are bad for baby's hips.....any input on this topic ? What type of carrier do you have? And do you only carry baby facing towards you? What about hip carriers? Does anyone use this style?
I have the Moby, Ergo and Bjorn. Mila loves forward facing in the Bjorn so we use that sparingly. She hated the infant insert in the Ergo so I'm waiting until she's big enough to use it without. It's too hot for the Moby for both of us.
We had a Moby, but my daughter hated it. We switched to the Beco Gemini - which we're really happy with. The seat area of the Beco is wide enough to keep babies hips in the 'froggy' position, even in a forward facing carry, which is better for preventing hip dysplasia than when the legs just dangle straight down, like in a Bjorn.
We also have a ring sling which is great for wearing her on my hip and super quick to just pop her in and out of. She loves being carried on my hip the best because she can really look around, but still lean into me when she gets tired. You can do a hip carry with the Beco as well, but we haven't tried it yet. Good luck!
I have both the moby and Bjorn. Little man likes facing out in the Bjorn better but we use it sparingly because of hip placement. I think I love the moby more than him. Although its hot, I live in MN and hot months are way outnumbered by cold ones. Will just looks from side to side when in it. It also doesn't strain my back like the Bjorn does.

Just want to point out that your article is on the boba blog... They manufacture wraps/baby carriers ad have every reason to shoot down the competition. Not exactly an objective source. I encourage you to do further research on the matter. This is something we are going to speak to our pediatrician about at our next visit.

While I understand what you're saying, their reasons do make sense. Have you found information to suggest otherwise? I just happened to see this link on Twitter; I haven't been researching the topic.

I'd be pretty surprised if your pediatrician had any information regarding carrier safety.
If it helps, I've read the same information on non-carrier websites like the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.
Ugh. I didn't use a carrier too much with G. And when I did he liked the meitai facing me. But I have to use a carrier w/N when we go shopping for more than a few things (instead of shoving stuff around her seat in the shopping cart) she hates the mei tai and the moby, but I put her facing out in our infantino and she was happy the whole time at the store. Guess I'll save it for grocery shopping.
Those are the same carriers I use and the Infantino facing out is the only way I can do anything in public (including eating out) without LO screaming bloody murder. She HATES her car seat and facing in. I'm hoping she likes the Ergo on the hip or the back once she's big enough. Now I feel kind of bad for putting her facing out in the Infantino.
Ok so I admit I don't really know about half of the carriers everyone else is talking about haha, but I thought I would put my two cents in. We have a ring sling and a moby wrap. We mostly use the ring sling now. If he is awake he prefers the ff "kangaroo" posistion. This picture is from about a month ago when I was trying different things out.

CUTE! He's like, whoa....look at all this stuff I can see from up here!

It's not that facing out is bad for baby - meaning it won't CAUSE hip dysplacia - but it might not be as comfortable for you or baby as wearing them facing you. It puts strain on both your backs a little differently. The idea is that you both may be able to go longer in a more ergonomic position.
That said, if baby prefers facing out and won't stand facing in, you gotta do what works!
Re: Forward facing carriers
I thought DS would love facing forward but now I think I will keep him in.
