March 2014 Moms

Scared! Need advice!

So I just recently found out that I am going to be a mom and I am more than excited! But I'm also scared and nervous about it all! I've never had kids before and I just don't know what to expect or what to do or how to act or anything! Advice would be very much appreciated!!!

Re: Scared! Need advice!

  • I was in the same boat two and half weeks ago and I was panicking! It wasnt planned and im actually getting married Friday! So its been a lot to take it but now that initial shock is over I feel like I can't imagine not being pregnant. This March board of moms is absolutely amazing and so supportive! When I panick about something just write about it because we are all right there with you! It'll be great!!! Being pregnant is a miracle because so many women never can or have a chance!! Good luck with everything! !

I'm right here with you ! Except I'm a little more confused as to how this will all work out.
  • My first reaction to the BFP was sheer terror, too!  It's a big deal, but you'll figure it out.  I always tell myself to remember - every mom who has come before us in the whole world figured this out, and we will too!

Congrats on your baby and your wedding!  Happy days!

  • Maybe try a different brand of prenatals. Centrum vitamins made me horribly sick but none of the others did....so maybe a different one will work. A baby gives so much, they make you feel so wonderful, endless love, they have confidence in you, its amazing. It will all come naturally. Take your vitamins find a good baby book and enjoy the ride.

there are gummy prenatals that I have hears are easy on the stomach. The folic acid in them is something you really need to prevent birth defects and help his growing organs, brain, etc. There are some great books out there I recommend
the Mayo Clinic's guide to pregnancy
    What to Expect

they will help you start to piece it all together before your first appointment. I am a first time mom, so much of it is new to a lot of us, although we have been trying for a while so I have been reading up on things (it makes me feel better)

I take Rainbow Light petite prenatals and a Nordic Naturals DHA supplement. I find both of them easy enough to take with juice right before lunch or a decent snack. Never on an empty stomach or in the mornings for me.

Everyone feels that way.  The first night DS arrived and he was crying I thought to myself "I'm in over my head here.  I have NO IDEA what I'm doing", but you get through it and you live and you learn.

  • My first reaction was "oh my god - really!?!?!?"  my second was "wait -- so not there's only one way it'll come out!?!?!"  It's okay -- you're not alone.   It's not going to be easy, but if you anticipate it not being easy - - that actually helps to make it easy -- because life is weird that way.  This is a great opportunity for you.
  • I'm also incredibly scared because I'm going to be doing this all on my own. What are some things I can do before my baby gets here to make it easier on me?

Does your hospital/doctor offer birthing and/or infant care classes? That might help you feel more prepared and relaxed about the process. Are you planning to have someone act as your coach during labor and delivery? It could be a doula or midwife, but even if you don't have money for a professional, maybe you can find a really close friend or family member who can take some birth classes with you and be there for you to coach you through labor.

  • I am a first time mommy-to-be too! I was literally terrified when I found out! But as the days have passed, I've found those fears (still there in the back of my mind) subsiding to excitement :) Just take one day at a time & focus on all the new, happy things!!
