EBF/comfort nurser and starting daycare- how many oz to send in bottles??

My DS is starting daycare in a couple weeks, at first for just a few hours a day and then in Sept full time. We are EBF, except for one bottle of breast milk a day. DS is also a big time comfort nurser. I have no idea how many oz to send when he goes. What should I assume? TIA!

  • A good rule of thumb is an ounce per hour that you will be away.  I did that for LOs bottles and added an extra ounce or two on top of that just so she would have a bit extra if she needed it.  My LO loves to comfort nurse to.  When she does she is not drinking any milk (I don't hear her gulping) but just hanging out on the nipple.  Even if your LO likes to comfort nurse you could start off sending an ounce an hour.  If he needs more than that you can up the bottles.  Just be sure that DC is bottle feeding him slowly by taking lots of burp breaks.
  • Thanks @aylafsu88! That's great advice! My DS does the same when comfort nursing...he did it all last night, too, haha. Sleepy mama today!
