Those that had insurance that covered diagnosing IF, but not treatment pls come in

I just talked to the insurance company and they say that typically the initial visit with doc is all that will go toward the deductible as they cover the diagnosis, but not treatment. How can they not cover the diagnostic tests and considered to be diagnosed as infertile w/o testing first?? I asked her well what if its a hormone imbalance, etc. but how can u diagnosis without the tests? Has anyone been thru something similar or have any advice? I am so frustrated right now and disheartened by this

I'm not 100% as all insur are different. Mine (united healthcare) doesn't cover any treatments, but so far has covered all labs and a good chunk of testing procedures. I think it depends on what diagnosis code is submitted with the testing.

So imo you should really look into what type of lab and diagnostic coverage you have.

As long as an actual infertility diagnosis isn't given, I would bet a lot of it will be covered until you actually are diagnosed. Then if something's done and billed with an infertility diagnosis, it won't be covered.

Try getting an order for the tests you need and take it to your GP. Then ask your GP if they will code it as multiple m/c work up instead of infertility.

These are all incredibly helpful - thank you all very much!! It's so tricky and I just want to be as smart as possible as I know treatment is not cheap!
