Update! Need a little moral support

edited July 2013 in July 2013 Moms
***Update:

The foley induction worked, and I was able to labor naturally all the way to 7cm. Once I hit transition, I opted for the epidural because I was so emotionally and physically exhausted. Unfortunately my little guy couldn't tolerate transition contractions. He had major late decels, so my doctor convicted me to do a section. It actually went really well! Once I met my baby I didn't care that my birth plan didn't go as hoped. He even scored a 9.9 on Agpar which thrilled me!

Thank you all for your support! :) ***

Went in for my 41 week appointment and ended up in labor and delivery due to a failed NST and a 4/10 biophysical. Amniotic fluid is very low.

Doc did a test with pitocin and baby didnt respond great at all, but he was willing to try a foley induction. So here I am just waiting to see what will happen. The foley bulb already came out, so I'm at a 3, and I'm having contraction on my own without pitocin, but they aren't always regular.

Right now I'm just feel bummed out... I'm beating myself up for not drinking way more water throughout my pregnancy and also wondering if I should have had an NTS earlier. Maybe my options would have been better had I known about the fluid levels sooner?

I wanted so badly to avoid a c section, and now it's looking like a real possibility since baby is having late decels after pitocin contractions.

Anyways, thanks for letting me get all this out. So much in my brain.

  • That's a lot for you to take in I'm sure. Don't beat yourself up over the low fluid levels. Most likely it's not something you had total control over. I had low fluid levels with my last pregnancy and I drank a ton of water. The best of luck to you! FX you'll be holding your baby soon!

  • I'm sorry you are dealing with this! Try not to stress and try to relax. Let your body do what it's supposed to. My water broke and I wasn't having super strong contractions and they wanted to start pit. I refused it and my body did take over but things would slow down when I stressed too much about it. No matter what happens, your baby is coming soon and it will be worth it!
  • Good luck I hope you progress well. Sometimes it seems to go slow then all steps up quickly when little one is ready to make appearance.

  • Good luck! I hope your contractions become regular and you get the birth you want!

  • I hope you're able to avoid a c-section. Good luck with everything!
  • Thank you for all your replies. I am trying my best to relax now. I did let myself have a good cry about it all earlier. I think I just needed to let go of all my expectations and realize that things may have to be different. I want to reach a positive mental place before tomorrow gets here so that I can enjoy the birth of my baby. At the moment that's a struggle. If you ladies think about it, I'd love some thoughts and prayers that little man will tolerate pitocin contractions better tomorrow if they become necessary.

  • There is nothing you could have done to prevent this. I had a csection and I was really upset because I wanted a vaginal delivery like I had with DS. The csection was not terrible and I had an easy recovery. Just think, in the end you will have your precious baby and it really does not how the baby arrives. Good luck!

  • It's not your fault. There are so many unpredictable factors in pregnancy and labor. Remind yourself of all the the ways you've taken care of yourself throughout the pregnancy. You've done a good job and soon you'll have your wonderful reward! Hang in there- you can do this.

  • Don't beat yourself up - the most important thing is that you and the baby are both okay, and if that means a c-section, then that's okay! Good luck, and keep us posted. Lots of thoughts and prayers for you and LO!

  • Congrats on your LO! I'm glad it all worked out in the end.

Don't blame yourself for ANYTHING related to the low fluid levels. Oral consumption only helps a minute amount. I was on fluid and oral hydration time and time again for my low levels and they did bupkis. Your low level was probably a side effect of being 41w. It doesn't happen all the time, but it amniotic fluid can dip drastically in late pregnancy.

    Congrats again mama!
