Is anyone interested in this? I know I'm not the only one with hyperemesis.
How you ladies doing? That's a relative question. Obviously we're not good, but how's today?
How are you emotionally?
Yesterday my midwife told me about a study (I think from England, I was curled up slowing dying at the time so may have messed that up) on women with hyperemesis. Consistently, almost all of them could keep lemonade and potato chips down much more regularly than anything else.
So your mission today, should you chose to accept it, is to test that theory. I plan to.
Re: Hyperemesis/severe morning sickness checkin?
Full disclosure here, I'm really feeling pretty normal 90% of the time thanks to Phenergan. Zofran is not really doing anything for me except causing severe constipation. But Phenergan is the only reason I'm able to function at all. Prior to starting it, I spent all day every day in the bed or on the bathroom floor. It was awful. I had to have IV fluids the first week and probably would have needed them at home if the Phenergan hadn't done the trick so I'm really glad the meds have finally helped. Anyway, my point in saying all that is that I have to take the pill at 3 am so that I can get the sleepys out and I can function by 7 am. Well, apparently my alarm didn't go off last night so at 5:30 I woke myself up gagging. I took a pill then and FOUGHT to keep it down. Of course it knocked me out around 6:30 am, just in time for my kids to wake up at 7. So basically, I'm still feeling foggy and just off today all because I missed that pill by 2.5 hours. Tonight, I will set multiple alarms!
Also, I have a gripe about my insurance... generally it's pretty good but I'm finding it's really weird about what meds it covers. My OB suggested that I try the newly re-released Diclegis which is really just B6 + Unisom. I was ticked off to get to the pharmacy to find out it would be $143 for a month supply after my insurance only covered about $40. Seriously... I can buy the B6 + Unisom OTC for like $10. So needless to say, I'm not taking the Diclegis. After talking to the Pharmacist, she agreed that if the Phenergan is working that I should stick with it for a few more weeks and see if this eases up in the 2nd tri. My gut is telling me that it won't ease up though and that this is going to be an issue until I deliver. I just hope the Phenergan keeps working!
The average time for hyperemesis to ease is 16 weeks, so hold out hope. Mine ease at 22-24 with my first, and was much milder the rest of the time (mild episodes once or twice a day). That's apparently pretty rare.
Phenergan is my next stop since zofran seems to hate me. Unisom and b6 did nothing.
I'm at 5-6 episodes of vomiting on a good day, each one involving 20-40 minutes of being sick, plus the constant nausea.
On bad days I get sick every time I move, so I'm on the bathroom floor for four to six hours till it eases enough to go to bed. Bad days happen maybe once a week.
