Car seats

I bought a chicco cortina travel system yesterday for half off, but I'm wondering if I should have. We were using a Graco Snugride that two of my cousins used. It's still good for a year, but the button is getting hard to unlatch and it's hard to get the straps tight enough. He also hates getting buckled in and I thought the easier straps might make a difference.

However, I am dumb and thought the 30 in the Chicco name meant the weight, not the height. DS is 15 lbs and 25". Is he going to grow out of the seat too quickly?

We will probably have another baby at some point so I could use it again then too. Just feeling like maybe I shouldn't have spent the money... Rambling done.

Most babies outgrow height before weight, but I think most of the 30 lbs seats are good up to 30 or 31 inches. So you probably have a few months left to use it. Although carrying around the infant seat becomes painful after a while. My DH had to go to the chiropractor from lugging around DS after 6 months!

  • The booklet says 30 inches and 22 lbs are the max, so he has 5 inches and 7 pounds before he outgrows their requirements.

  • Um no that would have been me assuming it was a Keyfit 30. :-<
I got it at Target for half off. It was the whole travel system.
I should also mention that DS is happy when in the carseat; he's just super unhappy about getting in and out of it, and I was attributing that to the straps being hard to work with.

Getting a new seat doesn't necessarily mean the straps will be easier to work with. I've noticed they were always a bit stiff and awkward the first little while...like they need to be worn in. Also, 5 inches and 7 pounds is not very much. If your kid grows fast like mine do, you probably won't get your money's worth out if it. I would take it back.

  • Thanks for the advice everyone! I am going to take it back or see if a couple people about to have babies need it.

Sounds like it's time to start looking for a convertible seat!

  • Oh man, I have this travel system and I did not know the "30" had anything to do with height or weight, thought it was just the model number.  my bad! I will have to look at the manual!

OP, the straps can be adjusted based on your LO's height -- my little guy is super tall so we had to move them pretty quickly.  Overall I've been really happy with the system, although the carseat is a little bit heavy.

  • To my knowledge, the 30in OR one inch of shell above their head whichever comes first. And weight max means its outgrown.
