I'm due with baby #2 in January, and considering I am off until September (am a teacher) I think we have to take the plunge and move him out of his crib and convert it to the toddler bed. I am so scared! EEK! My friend just did this transition with her son, same age, and it was a traumatizing experience for all. A month later, and they still aren't sleeping well.
I think we will do it soon - like this week. Any tips or advice?
I mentioned it a few times to him, but he's the type of kid that if I make it TOO big of a deal he will hate it and protest. I think I am going to buy him some new pillows since he LOVES laying in our bed with our big pillows.
Any advice, tips..? Anyone else have a horrific experience or did most people find the transition easy?
I am also not sure on if we transition him to the toddler bed (crib converts) how long do we keep him in that before we actually buy him his own bed?

Re: toddler bed
We also told him that if he slept good in his big boy bed he'd get to pick out a special blanket from the store.
The first week we had some issues but nothing huge. His biggest problem was staying in his room. In addition to the gate at the stairs we had to put childproof handles on all the doors upstairs, including his closet. Once he figured out it wasn't time to explore, he did much better. If he fell asleep on the floor, in his rocker or wherever, we didn't/don't care as long as he falls asleep.

She loves climbing into bed by herself and being tucked in, and we made a really big deal about her new set-up. She'll stay in bed until we get her (sometimes she gets out to play in the morning if I don't get her right away). We put a gate up on her door for added safety. Now, "nap"time is a different story. She gave up naps around 14mo, but I still put her down for daily quiet time (especially needed during DD#2's newborn days!). She does not stay in bed for that, so I've had to really childproof her room.
She loved her crib and never tried to get out, but once we told her that she could have a big-girl bed, she was all for it (especially after seeing her little sis sleep in a "baby crib").
Good luck!! And congrats on baby #2 :-)
