NBR Nashville / Memphis

DH and I are thinking about taking a trip to Nashville and/or Memphis in the fall, we're from NY.  Anyone who has visited or lives in the area that can recommend must see places or just has general info that could be helpful for a trip in that area?  Thank you.

Re: NBR Nashville / Memphis

  • I was born and raised in Memphis, then moved back here after many years away, just last August.  Beale street is a MUST.  BBQ is a must (I recommend The Rendevous for ribs and Germantown Commissary for BBQ...also must try BBQ nachos).  The zoo is ranked as one of the best in the country.  The Peabody Hotel is something to see.  Go at 11am any day and watch the march of the ducks.  Go any other time and you can still see the ducks, but the march is worth it.

Nashville is a neat city as well.  Lots to do downtown.  And there's the outlets nearby!

  • Anything specific you are looking for other than food or general entertainment? My niece and cousin are both in/near Nashville. I'd be happy to ask for recommendations.

  • Food, entertainment, sites to see that are definitely worth it.  I think especially entertainment, Nashville is known for music!  It's difficult to plan online because it just seems that every place claims to be the best.  I just thought I would try to reach out to anyone local that had some rock solid recommendations that weren't just tourist traps.  Any advice they would be willing to share would be very much appreciated.  Thank you!

  • Country Music Hall of Fame, all of the honky tonks down on Broadway, the Hermitage, Opry Land, the Ryman, Grand Ole Opry House.....just walking around downtown Nashville is fun. Depending on when you are here, the Tennessee Titans stadium is located downtown and the Nashville Predators (NHL) play at the Bridgestone Arena. There is an amazing winery owned by Kix Brooks called Arrington Vineyards. There are fun bus tours of Nashville as well.
  • From my niece - They should try and check out the Bluebird cafe (either buying tickets online for an event, or standing in line up to an hour before Showtime). My favorite restaurant is the Loveless Cafe. It's a good ways out of Nashville up the highway (probably about 25 mins) but definitely worth it, great southern good. I recommend Fido or Crema for awesome coffee here, fido has the best breakfast. If they've never been, they have to check out the Parthenon, and I would definitely recommend the bars downtown at night for awesome entertainment! Every one of them has great local people playing in them each night! And BBKings blues Bar on 2nd has great music as well, check online for when the bands are playing before you go! If you're downtown you have to take a walk to the top of the Shelby Street Bridge and see the views of the city! They're incredible! The Opryland Hotel is a must see too if I didn't already give enough to do! Lemme know if there's anything specific they're interested in doing or seeing (I know a couple of celebrity houses you can see, haha!) or eating or anything.

Wow- this is great, thank you! This was so thoughtful of you to ask your niece and got her to respond so quickly & thoroughly. Exactly what we were looking for! We don't get away all that often so I'd like to make the most of it. Thank you!

Awesome - thank you! I so appreciate the recommendations. It looks like downtown is definitely where we need to be for good music at night! Thanks!
