Should LO be getting? My lo can hold her head up and look around when she's tummy down on ny chest but when I lay her down on mat, she gets fussy real quick. How much time is your lo getting?
Whenever baby is up and alert I put her on her mat with toys and put her on her tummy. She seems pretty happy on her tummy and sometimes falls asleep while staring at her stuffed starfish lol.
We do tummy time on our bed...much softer & I can't get on the floor yet after my surgery. Maybe try the bed instead of the mat? We also do no more than 10-15 minutes at a time, plus time on chest (mainly Daddy's).
We have her on her back on the playmate and then will flip her over until she starts to fuss. Then we put her back on her back and keep playing. Usually twice a day. She likes to hold her head up and look around in the ergo at least once a day too.
Our LO hates tummy time, he immediately starts fussing which quickly leads to screaming and peeing so we have to roll him back over and by then he's so stressed he won't calm down.
Two of our friends said their kids hated tummy time as well so in one case they stopped completely and in the other they cut it down to just a couple minutes 3x a week and in both cases their kids skipped the crawling phase and went straight to walking. One of the friends said they felt like tummy time was needed more in the case of smaller or under developed babies and since our little guy is robust and has a strong head and legs that we shouldn't worry about it. With how much our little man hates tummy time and bc he has a strong head and legs I'm inclined to hope she's right and give up on it.
Does anyone know if there's any actual medical detriment to cutting tummy time completely?
Tummy time is recommended because it helps strengthen the back muscles along with the neck muscles. For young babies 8-10 min twice a day is recommended and always supervised! :-)
My cousin skipped tummy time because her daughter's head was so big and she hated it. Her daughter then didn't have the upper body strength to stand up. She didn't walk till about a year and a half. They had to have physical therapists come to the house to help. The doctors said it was attributed to the lack of tummy time. I would definitely stick with it. Try the pack and play, my coworker said that's the only place her LO would tolerate it.
I aim for at least once a day for as long as DD will tolerate. DD prefers to be on me as well when she gets her tummy time, according to her pedi, that still counts.

Not sure how old your LO is but my pediatrician said at my LO's 2wk appt that we should try for 2-3 sessions that are 3-4 minutes long. He said a flat surface is better than using yourself or pillow.
