Oh DH - I love you, but...

Gah - work is SO busy I haven't had any quality bumping time the past few days, but I've been wanting to post this because it was so hilarious.

MH and I have gotten into arguments in the past because when I ask him to pick up things from the store, he literally NEVER gets it right.  I've decided that I should just feel lucky that I have a husband who is so active / hands on around the house, so I've stopped nagging about it.  But this weekend it was particularly hilarious - the following was my list, and what actually arrived at my house:

Whole milk -- 2% milk
Raspberry greek yogurt -- strawberry goji yogurt
Black beans -- black soy beans (??)
Whatever fruit was on sale -- single package of organic strawberries with the insane FULL price tag still on
Annie's mac & cheese -- package of dry pasta
Sharp cheddar -- mozzarella (??)

I mean...I almost feel like he's joking, but he seriously isn't.  I didn't say a word, but I was chuckling to myself all night.

Any household chore that your DH does that you just wonder what he's thinking??

lol oh no... Maybe next time you should make a list printed from your computer with the name and PICTURE of the product you need! lol
Some places you can even find online the isle where he can find the products. And tell him "I challenge you to get all the products right this time!"
Men are competitive! Make it competitive for him! lol

    Good luck!

  • That is hilarious! I've realized that if I want want something done correctly, I have to do it myself. Otherwise I end up redoing it anyways! Although, sometimes I just let DH do it and bite my tongue.

  • Haha I feel thankful my DH gets lists right. HOWEVER he always gets the cheap grocery brand saline filled chicken breasts and it drives me NUTS! I buy free range antibiotic free meats when I go, he loves it way more than grocery store meat, but he will never buy it himself. And then I'm stuck with a box of 24 chicken breasts that gross me out lol ugh
  • Lol! Too funny! My H usually comes home with a lot of food we won't use, spending way too much money in the process, if he goes to the grocery store so I always go myself. I let him help out with other stuff like cooking!

  • That list.....too funny

Mine is opposite. I finally had energy to go to the grocery store yesterday by myself (used to go alone 50% of the time before BFP). So this morning DH exclaims "Oh you got A LOT of cookies".

I flipped him the bird and said, "This is what happens when you don't go".

Wow that escalated quickly. He just laughs and kisses me. hehehe

  • Hahaha, your husband sounds like mine. I sent him to the store the other day to get hamburger buns. While he was there, I thought, "oh no, he is going to try to change things up and get a fancy roll or something crazy". Luckily, I know him well enough, and texted him that I wanted a normal hamburger bun, nothing fancy. He told me when he got home that he was in the bakery section before I texted him looking for something else. I could go on about other chores he just can't get right, but he tries so hard and it would be mean to bash him. :)

I know!  This is totally my problem - he really tries SO hard and contributes so much, but sometimes things are just such an absolute fail I can't even begin...don't even get me started about when he tries to cook - I shudder just thinking about it.

I am petrified he will lose a finger while cooking. I always try to show him the proper way to hold a knife and he totally disregards it.

  • I think the worst for us is when DH tries to fix something around the house...or put up curtains...or do anything like that.  He almost destroyed a dresser that I refurbished trying to put drawer pulls on...he has no skill in that dept but he tries.  I grew up with a dad who was very handy and I'm definitely more handy than DH...but he wants to learn so I have to let him hang crooked curtains and break screws off inside my dresser and just putty the holes #-o
Haha, too funny, this is so my dad. Luckily, my DH is an aircraft mechanic, so he is very handy when it comes to fixing and building things.

  • My hubby is disappointed in his own lack of fix-it skills. He was so ashamed to tell me that he had put a huge hole in our DD's closet when trying to put shelves in...The wall in there were brand new, like the paint had been dry for 3 days. He hasn't done much since then, and he definitely learned from that experience!

I don't let him do much cooking other than throw something into the oven. Anything else usually turns into a disaster.

A few weeks ago when I was at the ER my mom came over to take care of DD, well I guess she saw the wreck that I would call my kitchen floors so she said she'd be by the next day to mop.

She came by the next day but before she started mopping she sat down to visit with me to see how I was feeling.... In that time DH went ahead & mopped.

WITH BLEACH !!! OMG talk about feeling woozy from the smell. I had to tell him don't you dare walk into the carpet with your shoes on. Take them off & wipe your feet on this towel.

A few days later - I told him you do not mop floors with bleach...EVER. Even better.. I always have a few bottles of Pine-Sol in the house.

  • I asked MH to unload the dishwasher a few nights ago.  He asked me where we keep the cups.  Seriously.  Ummmm, where do you take one from when you need one?  LOL.  I get a lot of this from him.  I'm pretty sure he does things like that so he doesn't get asked to do certain chores anymore. Does he really expect me to believe he doesn't know where to find a cup in our house?

But I have to say, when he cleans the bathroom, it sparkles.  I don't know where he learned that, but I'll take it!

  • DH is pretty cheap. For some reason he thinks the whole of its yellow let it mellow thing works. It doesn't, pee never mellows. So I go behind him and flush. It's not a typical chore, but it's a chore to me!
  • My DH likes to put away the dishes from the dish washer before they have been washed...so then I always wonder if that plate I just pulled out is really clean or just pre-rinsed...lol!

His idea of cooking is eggo waffles in the toaster and thats pretty much it...yikes!

  • My oh so handsome man went to the grocery store with a detailed list as well.... Forgot that in his truck and decided to wing it. What I ended up with? 100.00 worth of monster energy drinks, Gatorade and chips. I think the only thing he got that was actually on the list was hamburger meat.... I've decided he does this on purpose so that I will make sure to always do the shopping.... Clever, clever man.

I seriously think they do this on purpose too.  They're not as useless as they act sometimes!  LOL!
  • My husband has called me from the store and told me they are out of things like lettuce and yogurt because he can't find them. I don't know how they can be so smart and capable in other areas and inept at simple life skills.

  • 1 - Yes - I sometimes think he does it on purpose to be so useless. He has asked where dishes go and I just can't - I mean you use the stuff, where did you find it? We have lived here for 4 years!! He also never puts the pots away correctly.

2 - and yes - If he goes to the store, I have to throw out about half the groceries he got a week later - its too much and not thought out.

3 - I always have to clean after he cleans. If I do the kitchen, it is spotless. If he does, there are still dishes left and the counters and floors are dirty. Basically 'clean the kitchen' to him it means "fill the dishwasher"

4 - When I was on BR I asked for help and he called the maids service to get a cleaning :| (It was nice, but not exactly what I had in mind, we will need dishes done more than once a month!)

  • Oh my goodness! So funny but SO not at the same time! My DH is not THAT bad at the store but he definitely pulls the, "They don't have it" if he can't find it at first glance.

What he does is we'll go grocery shopping, we'll have our meal list and all the stuff we need to make everything and then the next day when I'm at work and he's inbetween his internship and work he'll text me, "so- what food do we have?"  OR he'll want to go get lunch out instead of making something because he gets overwhelmed by having too much food... haha  He is getting better, thank goodness- but it still cracks me up.

  • So funny! I actually laughed out loud and read it to my husband. He said he would have gotten very thing wrong except for the most expensive fruit.

My husband always gets the list right, but then gets tons of extra stuff. I sent him to go get drinks one night when we were having his parents over for dinner. I didn't give him specifics, just told him to get a bottle of wine, some beer and something without alcohol. He comes back with $200 worth of beverages. Several bottles of wine, 2 kinds of beer, non alcoholic beer, bottled water, vitamin water, a case of Coke (which neither of us drink), sweet tea and unsweet tea. This was for 4 people!

    LOL this is Halarious!

  • Too funny! You've described my DH to a tee! Everything he buys from the store is wrong! I asked for assorted Popsicles - he buys me some strawberry ice cream. I ask for corn flakes - he buys me frosted flakes (loaded with sugar!) I ask for fresh fruit - he buys the softest fruit in the store (close to being rotten!) I ask for soft toilet paper - he gets the roughest one ply no name brand. I ask for unscented aveeno lotion - I get Jergens perfumed lotion!

But man I love the guy!
  • This is one of my fave threads today LOL!  DH and I were recently were struggling to figure out why our washer/dryer were putting out so many fuzzies and lint on our clothes.  DH took apart the dryer and cleaned it out but to no avail the fuzzies were there every wash.  Then I come to realize he was throwing DRYER sheets in with wash that were then disintegrating and sticking to everything!  Smartest man I know--overlooking the fact that they are DRYER sheets. :x
