Trouble TTC

PCOS

Hello Ladies....I was wondering If I could get some advice and hear some of the stuff you've gone through or are going through. I've had PCOS for about 10 years now, and Ive been on Metformin for years as well. Me and my husband have been actively trying for about 4 years to get pregnant. We adopted a little boy about 15 months ago. But have since decided that we want to try to have a biological child. I just started all the official testing last month. I had the HSG done and my uterus looked great, I had 1 tube open and clear and the other tube was damaged from a prior surgery. They also found several small cysts on each of my ovaries. I had cycle day 3 bloodwork and everything came back normal. The only thing elevated was my testosterone, which goes along with PCOS. Yesterday I had blood work done again and was told that I did not ovulate and that my progesterone was very low. I also forgot to mention that I have type 2 diabetes, which is in control.  My GYN also told me today that she does believe I can get pregnant, but its going to be a process because of the PCOS. I have an appt. to go see a infertility specialist next week. So I am excited/scared to see what she is going to say.  How has this journey been for you??      Sorry if this sounds jumbled.....Its been a lot to process since I've started hearing all of the news.....

I have pcos too. And I have to be honest, trying to get pregnant has been a nightmare. I'm not trying to deter you, I'm just trying to be honest. I went off all my meds (byetta, sprio, metaformin ) when we first started trying, and after a year of that and no baby, I got put back on everything because my blood tests were so out of whack. I also have mfi issues as well, so that further complicates this, but dealing with pcos and ttc is really tough. Some women have an easier time than others. I wish you the best of luck!! Also, some women like to be warned when you mention a child, so I'd put that in the subject line next time :-)

  • Thank you for the advice, I did not realize I needed to put that in the subject line. Next time I will do so :)     I was on birth control for 6 months along with all the other medications, and this past month was the first cycle trying on our own. So that why the doctor decided to start all this testing.  Its been a nightmare so far....I wish the best to you as well...

Good luck with the testing, and despite the science of conceiving, don't let it get in between you two. It takes some extra tlc in my relationship to deal with this because I've found with infertility comes sadness, guilt and frustration that bubbled up on ugly ways. Good luck!

  • I have pcos and have been trying for a year. I have started clomid, progesterone and sythroid. I am hopeful, have to be. I want this more then anything. Hang in there we are here for support.
  • I was diagnosed with PCOS about a month ago, they won't consider putting me on any medications until my DH has a SA done. I'm frustrated because I hate wasting time... we've been trying for almost a year and I'm trying so hard not to lose hope. I've done one round of progesterone because I hadn't had a cycle in 4 months and 3 more months before that. I've heard from several people with PCOS that it complicates things, but that pregnancy isn't impossible and to not forget that there is always a chance, that the PCOS just complicates things. Wish you all the best!

  • I thought I would write because I am 39 and was diagnosed with PCOS at 23. After years of medications not helping much, I ended up doing a low carb diet, exercising A LOT (became a Zumba teacher), and using acupuncture weekly to try to help my cycles. I had the following symptoms - late periods - often 45-50 day cycles, bad PMS sometimes for 2 weeks, cysts, hormone panel of someone with PCOS (this is how I get diagnosed), mild/moderate acne, some annoying facial hair (chin mostly), and I always had this bloated belly that made me look pregnant (how much worse can it get - you can't get pregnant and random people are always asking when you are due...ugh). I was told I wouldn't be able to get pregnant without help (Clomid, etc.). I had tried with my first marriage, but it didn't work out. Then, in March of this year, I got accidentally pregnant (we were using a cap). I figured, okay, the cap isn't that effective, but I'm 39, have PCOS, etc., so it will be fine. Needless to say...shot gun marriage! My husband and I are very happy but so shocked. I had given up on having children YEARS ago, and then I get pregnant using birth control.

So don't lose hope and keep trying new things. For me, herbs and medications did squat, but exercising, gaining muscle and getting the acupuncture started to straighten out my cycles. I think everyone is different, and if it turns out you need to adopt, you will love your baby just as much. I always thought eventually I would adopt and fully accepted that. I think relaxing and giving up is probably what got me pregnant. If all else fails, try using the FemCap LOL...I think that THING got me pregnant!

@Athena0303 I am sure that the intent of your post was to offer hope, but your audience on this board is infertile women. We have all been told to "relax and it will happen" and such advice is not well recieved here. For everyone else, the original post was bumped from July.

  • I have PCOS as well, but my husband and I have just started going through testing (HSG, SA, etc) before my RE will proceed with any type of treatment, so I can't really offer much advice, but I can tell you that my neighbor and really good friend also has PCOS and is now the proud mom of twin girls (after a few IUI attempts). I know everyone's journey is different, but it gives me hope that it is possible!

  • I was just recently told by my Dr. that she believes I have PCOS and it has been rough on me. I am 25 (26 on Friday) and I have been on BC since 13 because of inconsistent periods. We have always thought it was because in HS I was in sports and traveling all the time and not sleeping well and I had an eating disorder for a while. I got off BC in December and we started trying. After 6 months and only having 2 periods I decided to look into it. I had the same thing happen to me that I have read many times now the first provider looked at me and said I can tell you that you dont have PCOS by looking at you because I am not over weight, no acne or excess body hair. I had an ultrasound that month and they found 2 small cysts on one ovary but said it was nothing to worry about. I had a ton of blood work done and the only thing that came out abnormal was my testosterone which was high. Just as I was about to start more testing and get on clomid I found out we were pregnant.
First appointment was at 6 weeks 1 day, we saw the heartbeat but did not hear it. I spotted my whole pregnancy (always brown and no clots) I was always told that it was normal. I was put on progesterone right away because that was also low. I had an appointment 2 weeks ago at 12 weeks 4 days and found out our baby was just gone. No idea when it happened but my HCG was still up to 37000 and they did not want me to miscarry naturally because my placenta was still growing strong and she thought I would bleed too much.
Since the miscarriage my Dr has told me she believes it is PCOS so I am on spiro for now and will know more after my post op. For me PCOS is so confusing because I feel like I have tried to do everything right and remain healthy and yet its my bodies biology that is fighting me. I too see pregnant people everywhere and everyone seems to do so well no matter what their lifestyle is and I find myself getting angry.
Sorry I know I didnt really give any helpful info I just wanted to let you know I did get pregnant without anything although the egg was not a good one. I am hoping to get my levels to where they need to be in the next 2 1/2 months so we can start trying again. Hang in there you are def not alone!
