What has worked best for you? DD has a cough, high temp, runny nose, diarrhea, and has been spitting up/puking since last night. We already took her to the doc, they told me to switch between motrin and tylenol. They also said I can give her broths.

  • No broths or pedi slug, just lots if nursing, maybe some toast and a banana. Baths, cuddles, humidifier.

What is her appetite like? I voted for no solids/bm, just because I'm thinking that maybe she wouldn't be hungry for solids. If you wanted to see if she'll eat solids, you could go for something really mild, like fruit and go from there. I'm sorry she doesn't feel well :(. And definitely the bath, I don't know how much it would help, but it couldn't hurt.

ETA - you could dilute a low sodium broth if you wanted to try that and see.

Her appetite is less than usual, but I've been trying to get her to eat  as much as I can. She has had tons of poopy butts, but only 1 wet diaper which gets me worried about how hydrated she is. Maybe some banana to help with the diarrhea?

  • so took LO for possible diarreah the other week (no puke, no fever though) - pedi had her poop tested for bacterial infection, said to keep nursing, watch her pee diapers (make sure there are 3 or more per day), to give her starchy yet bland foods (rice cereal, potato), and to give her probiotics.

  • I voted for "all" but only bc I couldn't select multiple options :)
I'd say all of the above except broth and pedilyte.
You can get baby Vicks rub and put it on her feet and then put socks on her. Don't know why this works but I've heard it's awesome. Don't put it on her chest. It's too strong. The one time lo was sick I put a tiny bit of it on my chest so that when she nursed she got a smell of it.

  • We are heading down this road unfortunately, a stomach bug is running through our house. I plan to just nurse ad much as possible and since I can barely eat myself, offer breastmilk from my feeezer stash to make sure she gets enough. Once she seems a bit better will slowly inrroduce rice cereal.

  • To me, diarrhea means the BRAT diet. Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. (Of course, I think that breastfeeding as much as possible takes priority, especially if you've gotten the bug she has as the BM will have your antibodies in it.)

Well, we went over to a friends, whose a nurse, and she was acting fine. Then said friend looked at the roof of her mouth, and there was a cluster of thrush. I never would have thought to look there for it, I have always seen it in my kids cheeks or on their tongue. Explains why she is acting the way she is, stupid doctor! I feel horrible I never thought about it or checked there.

So now we'll have to go pick up a Nystatin prescription from the pedi as I can't find our bottle from a few months ago. Grrrr.
